Overview (quick description of the funded project and its context):

The United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) is a technology-intensive programme active since 2001 in applied research and innovative applications relating to geospatial information technology and satellite analysis, and mapping. UNOSAT Programme Unit also delivers to its beneficiaries tailor made training courses on the use of geo-information technology for humanitarian aid, human security, disaster risk management, territorial planning and environmental monitoring.

General objectives of the contract:

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Specialist in charge of Strategic Planning and Coordination Section, the incumbent will contribute to increase programme visibility and sound project management.

Responsibilities:

The trainee will support the programme in:

  • Contributing to writing of posts for UNOSATโ€™s social media channels, namely X (Twitter), Facebook and LinkedIn;
  • Producing and scheduling content for social media, in line with overall communications guidance, priorities and strategies;
  • Drafting communication and outreach material in coordination with relevant partners and colleagues for specific projects;
  • Contributing to the update of unosat.org website content;
  • Contributing to organisation of events;
  • Contributing to targeted outreach and communications to donors and partners;
  • Any other tasks that may be required by Supervisor in the attainment of programmeโ€™s objectives. Measurable outputs/deliverables/schedule of deliverables:
    • Post and Monitor social media channels on a daily basis;
    • Number of published articles and other outreach material as requested throughout contract period;
    • Efficient day-to-day support to successful communications coordination and execution for different projects. Performance Indicators for evaluation of results:
      • Demonstrated competence to work in a team.
      • Effective production of UNOSAT communication and outreach material as required throughout performance period contributing to an increase in the visibility of the Programmeโ€™s work. Learning Objectives:

        By the end of the collaboration, the trainee will:

        • Gain practical experience in producing engaging communication material for a non-profit organization in operational context;
        • Apply time and management skills in order to respect the deadlines. Reporting Structure:

          The trainee reports to the Senior Specialist in charge of Strategic Planning and Coordination Section and will work and liaise with other relevant UNOSAT staff as required.

          Eligibility Criteria:

          Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate degree in journalism, political sciences, media, communications, or a related field is highly desirable. Candidates with equivalent training/experience and a passion for journalism and/or human rights work are also encouraged to apply.
