Job description

Sexualised and gender-based violence (SGBV) remains very prevalent in Rwanda. The project SGBV supports its partners amongst others in the improvement of services for persons affected by SGBV. The advisor for strengthening mental health and psychososcial support structures will be working with two civil society organizations of the project. 1) Hagurukaโ€™s misson is to defend and promote the rights of women and children by assisting the victims of SGBV to access justice through provision of legal aid services. Haguruka conducts awareness raising campaigns, and capacity building to empower right holders and duty bearers to engage in SGBV prevention and response. 2) Health Development Initiative (HDI) strives to improve both the quality and accessibility of healthcare for all Rwandans through advocacy, coalition building, capacity building, outreach, and training of beneficiaries and duty bearers. Among HDIโ€™s target groups are vulnerable and marginalized groups such as young people, sex workers, members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendercommunity and citizens in general who seek counselling and support on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Your tasks

Conducting a capacity assessment of existing advisory services and counselling structures within Haguruka and HDI and of the resources of their staff who work with clients to identify capacity development needs Based on the assessment, develop and implement trainings and other capacity development for Haguruka and HDI counsellors with focus on client-centred communication, trauma- and gender-sensitive methods Develop or link to existing resources, e.g. manuals, modules, handbooks that will support both organizations in sustaining the client-centred communication approach Conceptualise and implement methods of self-care for the staff of both organizations and make suggestions on how to anchor these in the organizationsโ€™ managerial processes Analyse the wider network of psychosocial counselling structures for persons affected by SGBV, including at the state-run Isange One Stop Centers (based on the collaborations already established by the project) to identify synergies and possible networking opportunities Conceptualise and organize exchange meetings between relevant stakeholders in psychosocial support Conceptualise peer exchange or peer supervision processes that could be implemented in form of a professional network Contribute to exchanges with clients on the quality and challenges in the delivery of psychosocial services such as communication barriers, time restraints etc.

Your profile

Professional background in clinical psychology, social work, health or social sciences Extensive working experience in the field of mental health and psychosocial support Knowledge and experience in applying counselling approaches and methods; non-violent, client-centred communication, supervision, self-care Working and/or collaboration experience with civil society organizations Experience in planning and delivering trainings for adults, e.g. in the workplace Extensive knowledge in organizational development, including the creation and management of professional networks Experience in working and communicating in multi-cultural teams, resilience, ambiguity-tolerance Experience in working with marginalized and vulnerable population is an advantage Business fluency in English, knowledge of French is an advantage
