Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme, the direct supervision ofย National Program Officer โ Migration, Environment and Climate Changeย and in close collaboration with Programme Managers and other relevant colleagues in the Mission, the incumbent will support all aspects of Migration, Environment and Climate Change (MECC) programming in Ethiopia, including the implementation of MECC projects, capacity building, assessments, training, research, and other related activities
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Support the implementation of projects related to climate adaptation, and disaster risk management.ย
- Draft ย project plans, ย verifying timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation are aligned with donor requirements and organizational policies.
- ย Monitor project activties, coordinating with partners and stakeholders, and ย verify activities align with the project plan and quality standards
- ย Participeate in the development of and implement M&E frameworks to track progress, conduct regular field visits for assessment and feedback, analyze data to measure project impact, and prepare timely progress reports for supervisors and donors.
- ย Monitor the project budget, and prepare financial reports per organizational and donor requirements, and maintain transparency and accountability in fund usage.
- Strengthen partnerships with local stakeholders, ย participate in relevant events, and ย facilitate effective communication and collaboration.ย
- Contribute to the mainstreaming of human mobility into local development plans and policies.ย
- Draft ย concept notes and sections of proposals in close coordination with the supervisor ย and support the mobilization of ย funding for climate action.ย
- Contribute to MECC relevant policy processes, providing technical inputs on human mobility, environment, and climate change nexus.ย
- Contribute to administrative and technical support in organizing and coordinating MECC related trainings, workshops, meetings, seminars, and other events.
- Assist the IOM Ethiopia team in promoting MECC-related initiatives and ensuring donor visibility through drafting press releases, newsletters, briefing notes, etc.
- ย Comply ย with IOM and donor requirements, including those related to procurement, finance, and human resources, maintaining close contact with relevant IOM support units.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
EDUCATION
- BA Degree in Environmental Science; Natural Resource Management; Agricultural Economics; Forestry; Plant Science; Rural Development; Disaster Risk management; Gender and Development; International Relations and other related Social Science fields, or
- School diploma.
EXPERIENCE
- Six ย years ย of relevant work experience inย the fields of Migration, Environment, and/or Sustainable Development.
- Experience working onย climate change, disaster-risk reduction/management, community-based livelihood adaption, green job creation, and/or climate smart-agriculture projects.
- Experience in project management and implementation, including resource/financial management, project development, and monitoring and evaluation concept is preferable.ย
- Capacity building experience with governmental and non-governmental actors at federal and grassroots levels is an asset.
- Previous experience working for an international organization, particularly on migration related issues is desired.
SKILLS
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration, climate change, climate adaptation and disaster risk managemnet related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
- Knowledge of climate action related project design and implementationย
- Knowledge of budget proposal development and budget managementย
- Knowledge of resource mobilization and strategic partnership including managing project implementing partners
- Familiarity with the work of UN agencies, and/or similar International organizations would be a plus.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English (oral and written) and have at least a working knowledge of Amharic (Oral and Written).ย
DESIRABLE
Knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.ย
