The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Corporate Services Directorate โ Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO) โ Platform & Services Department (P&S) โ Integration Division (INT) โ Applications Integration Unit (AI) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a (Senior) Kafka Engineer*. This is a full time position at grade 5/6 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.

Purpose
As a member of the integration team, you will work with the EIB Groupโs application teams to guide, design and implement technical solutions for event streaming with Kafka platform and other Agile integration technologies, such as API management. Participate in building these key IT integration capabilities for the new (hybrid) cloud-first environment.
Operating Network
Reporting directly to the Head of Applications Integration Unit, the team provide a modern integration platform, e.g. middleware layer, for the communication between IT applications, which are developed and maintained by other IT teams.
Kafka forms part of the overall integration approach, along with a classical Enterprise Service Bus and an API Gateway for modern micro-service applications.
In view of continuous platform improvement, you would address the following:
Accountabilities
Develop the Kafka platform to ensure its long-term cost-effectiveness, business value, usability, efficiency, maintainability, and scalability in line with architectural guidelines Define best practices and guidelines for design, development, documentation, automated testing, and continuous integration and delivery on the Kafka platform following agile methodologies Develop project proposals and manage projects to implement new and enhanced integration functionality Plan and manage feature and security patching Conduct presentations and coaching for team members to facilitate adoption and efficient use of event streaming and other integration standards and technologiesQualifications
University degree preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology At least 5 yearsโ relevant professional experience in designing and implementing of software solutions, using Kafka or other modern middleware stacks Previous experience and knowledge of the standard middleware technologies, such as Web services, API Management or Enterprise Service Bus Experience in varied software development platforms and environments e.g. Java or .Net Ability to provide clear, concise technical documentation and guidance to IT teams while delivering comprehensive status updates to management and business users Experience in Agile methodologies will be considered an advantage Knowledge of build and deployment automation technologies, such as Jenkins, Jira, Git, Nexus, and Azure DevOps will be considered an advantage Excellent knowledge of English and/or French (*), with a good command of the other. (*) Unless stated explicitly as a required qualification, a good command of French is not a pre-requisite for hire. As both English and French are however official working languages of the EIB, proficiency in both languages is a pre-requisite for your future career development. Any language clause in your contract must be fulfilled in order for you to be eligible for a promotion (either via the annual appraisal cycle or via an internal selection process). Proficiency is understood to mean the attainment of level 5 of the Inter Institutional language courses, corresponding to B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
