Background
The โAccelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africaโ (AICCRA) program, funded by the World Bank, builds on past CGIAR investments in climate information services (CIS) and climate smart agriculture (CSA) to scale these innovations for smallholder farmers in the Africa region.
As part of activities around AICCRA Theme 4: Climate Information Services, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in collaboration with the CGIAR Gender Platform, is planning to deliver a course on gender and cost-benefit analysis of CIS. The aim is to integrate gender considerations more profoundly in a curriculum that provides participants with the capacity to think critically through the ways in which one can quantify the costs and benefits, as well as the empirical impacts and cost effectiveness, of CIS.
IFPRI is seeking a qualified senior consultant to co-design and jointly deliver this course. The consultancy will start late August, and the course will be implemented from mid-November to early-December, meaning that the final deliverables will be planned for mid-December. The position is remote.
Scope of work
- Screen and review existing materials for gender entry points
- Provide suggestions for gender content and considerations to develop and include into course materials
- Develop rough guidance for assignment development by junior consultant
- After validation of suggestions by project lead, develop gender content for each module
- Review assignments developed by junior consultant
- Coordinate the delivery of the course, including strategic planning of the course delivery with project lead and partners, overseeing of logistics, co-teaching of the modules.
Required qualifications of the consultant
- Masterโs degree in international development, economics, agricultural economics, behavioral economics, or related field.
- Demonstrated professional experience (5-10 years of project leadership experience, contribution to publications) in the applied research, design and implementation of climate services and climate-smart agriculture projects in the Global South
- Demonstrated professional experience working with different actors of the climate services value chain (climate information providers, climate information users, policy experts, researchers and practitioners) in the Global South, preferably including Africa
- Demonstrated professional experience in the design and delivery of online and in-person trainings on climate information use in the Global South, preferably including Africa
- Demonstrated ability to work with Microsoft Office packages, including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of gender, climate change adaptation, and agricultural development, and challenges and opportunities of climate services to support adaptation to climate change.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English (fluent)

- Demonstrated proficiency in French (fluent)
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- Experience working in Africa
