Job Summary:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks three qualified candidates to serve as Research Analysts within the Development Strategies and Governance Unit (DSG). These are full time, one-year, renewable appointments based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG). IFPRI is currently delivering the Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Policy Support Program (PNG-AFNP, 2024-2028), supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Australian High Commission (AHC) in Port Moresby, and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). The successful candidates will be primarily responsible for supporting research under the PNG-AFNP. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in Papua New Guinea.
Essential Duties:
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Assist in preparation of working papers, discussion papers, and rapid analyses for government and donor reports.
Assist in developing data documentation manuals or other learning materials
Assist in handling household survey data (including survey design, sampling & questionnaire)
Assist with field survey activities (training survey enumerators, field supervision of surveys)
Assist with development of research instruments and analytical tools
Assist in survey data processing, cleaning
Assist with data analysis, statistical analysis, econometric analysis
Assisting in conducting literature reviews & synthesis
Assist in preparing large datasets for public access
Assist with responses for internal/external data requests
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelorโs degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development or a relevant discipline plus two years of relevant professional experience or Masterโs degree in any of the above mentioned fields.
Ability to perform quantitative data analysis.
Excellent drafting skills and analytical mind.
Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth statistical analysis and report the results.
Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications, research reports, etc.
Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English
Excellent interpersonal skills and working in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment
Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines and manage time well
Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
Ability to work independently, with initiative and minimal supervision.
Ability to travel.
Familiarity with popular software packages & Internet based systems.
Familiarity with PNG.
Preferred Qualifications:
Skilled in programming in STATA, GAMS and in managing household databases.
Excellent econometric skills in cross-section and panel data analysis.
Strong background in microeconomics
Proficiency in Tok Pisin
Physical Demand & Work environment:

Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading.
