Plan International Thailand (PIT) has been working in Thailand in 1981 and most of its work is now located in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and the greater Bangkok area with projects also in Tak, Trat and Phang Nga provinces. Over the years, Plan International Thailandโ€™s work has covered the areas of Child Protection, Early Childhood Care and Development, Disaster Risk Management, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, advancing rights of stateless and migrant children and youth, fair recruitment practices for migrant families, and youth economic empowerment, especially for girls. During FY 2019 โ€“ 2022, Plan International Thailand has focused on three Country Programme Areas: 1) Gender and womenโ€™s empowerment and justice, 2) Children on the move, and 3) Legal status and citizenship.

Plan International Thailandโ€™s country strategy (2022-27) will deepen the organizationโ€™s focus on advancing childrenโ€™s rights and striving for equality of girls and youth in all of their diversity in Thailand. Particular focus will be on gender transformative approaches with Plan Internationalโ€™s Areas of Global Distinctiveness (AOGD) programme areas on youth employment and empowerment, sexual reproductive health and rights, protection, and empowering children and youth to advance their rights and decide on their own life course.

The Senior Business Development Manager is a senior management position and member of the Core Country Management Team (CCMT) at Plan International Thailand to ensure the development and successful fundraising for achieving the objectives of the new country strategy.

The Senior Business Development Manager will line manage the Grant Coordinator, Grant Writer and Communication and Campaigns Officer positions and specific consultancies that may be required for calls for proposals.

Core role and responsibilities:

Overall

The Senior Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for nurturing donor relationships, and securing funding based on evidence-based approaches through a variety of institutional, multi-lateral, corporate donors, foundations, and high net worth individuals. S/he will work closely with Programme, Learning and Evidence Base, and advocacy teams in developing concepts and proposals for acquiring funding to achieve Plan International Thailand country strategy.

Resource mobilization and donor relations

  • Manage and grow incrementally a diverse funding portfolio ranging in EUR 3-4 million per year;
  • Develop and implement the Plan International Thailand fundraising strategy based on the needs of the Areas of Global Distinctiveness (AOGD) programme teams and Director of Programme Innovation and Impact for the Country Strategy
  • Design and implement a strategic, results-oriented and coordinated approach to the mobilization of significant additional resources through matching country programme and Plan National Office priorities, donor landscape mapping and priorities, seeking cross-border and multi-country opportunities from traditional and non-traditional sources such as private sector organizations, foundations, high net worth individuals to fund Plan Thailandโ€™s country strategy, and closely monitoring funding targets for programme areas to meet financial objectives of Plan Thailandโ€™s 2022-27 country strategy;
  • Actively liaise and build on existing donor and corporate partner relationships and manage strategic long-term relationships;
  • Regularly liaise and research potential prospects for quality funding from National Offices (NOs), institutional, multi-lateral, philanthropic, government and corporate donors that align with Plan International Thailandโ€™s Country Strategy objectives;
  • Facilitate and lead development of concept notes and project proposals in each AOGD programme area with inputs from NOs, Programme team, Technical Leads, Learning and Evidence Base teams, programme local partners along with Finance and Operations teams and / or in collaboration with NOs, or internal / outsourced proposal writers as required;
  • Design and manage fundraising database, together with the Evidence Base and Learning Team, for rapid access and resourcing for concept note and proposal development;
  • Lead development of marketing products and projects in collaboration with the Programme Leads, Technical Leads, Evidence Base and Learning teams;
  • Develop and present periodic funding reports to Thailand office, Regional Hub and Global Hub of Plan as per the reporting requirements;
  • Ensure that budgets developed with proposal development team focal points are cost-efficient, effective and eligible per given donor compliance to ensure technical, finance/ operations and core programme staff positions and related apportioned costs are resourced with external funding according to internal financial targets;
  • Negotiate effectively with NOs and donors to ensure all costs are fully recovered;
  • Secure quality funding based on the country strategy targets for each of the AOGD programme focus areas that support Plan International Thailandโ€™s country strategic objectives (2022-27).

    Public relations and communications

    • Lead the development and implementation of Plan International Thailandโ€™s Communications Strategy to position PIT as a leading organisation advancing childrenโ€™s rights and gender equality, especially girls, in alignment with Plan Internationalโ€™s global strategy;
    • Lead external brand building activities and ensure local staff are aware of and adheres to Plan Internationalโ€™s branding and visibility policies;
    • Develop and coordinate media relations and be the focal point for external media;
    • Ensure Plan Internationalโ€™s global brand and local strengths are well reflected in all media interviews by staff;
    • With Programme team, develop and implement external relations influencing strategy combining policy with local partners and other staff onadvocacy, campaigning and communications;
    • Maintain strong internal communications within Plan International workplace platforms;
    • Promote programme/project products that advance the objectives of the country strategy, advancing rights of children and empowering youth, especially girls;
    • Develop and build on existing government relations and collaboration;
    • Coordinate project visits with donors, National Office representatives, and staff engagement with corporate partners.

      Internal coordination and teamwork

      • Facilitate, with Grant Coordinator and Finance Manager, regular grant update meetings touching on all aspects of proposal development, donor compliance and reporting โ€“ both narrative and financial;
      • Develop with Programme team, Technical Leads, Learning and Evidence base teams along with Finance and Operations teams, standard operating procedures (SOPs) for most efficient and effective development of concept notes, programme/project products and project proposals;
