Senior Associate, Adaptation & Climate Change (Mexico)

The Adaptation & Climate Change Senior Associate will be part of the GGGI Mexico team based in Mexico City. S/he will work in close collaboration with other staff in CAID, IPSD, and other GGGI divisions, particularly Mexicoโ€™s country team and under the guidance of the Mexicoโ€™s Country Representative.

The Senior Associate is expected to be a professional who is passionate about contributing to GGGIโ€™s mission to drive innovation in accelerating green growth worldwide and addressing the global climate emergency. The Senior Associate will play an important role within the Mexico team to support country program in addressing climate change adaptation actions, conducting vulnerability and risks assessments, contributing to the integration of climate change adaptation into national and subnational policies, strategies, programs and projects, supporting the development of adaptation capacitiesโ€™ assessments and identifying adaptation technologies and best practices, calculating co-benefits of adaptation actions, providing inputs for adaptation actions design, implementation, and monitoring.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to support implementation of GGGI Mexicoโ€™s program in integrated planning for climate resilient green growth to support development and support in the development of climate transparency systems, contribute to the preparation of Mexicoโ€™s NDCs implementation roadmap and related activities to the countryโ€™s NDCs. The person in this position will play a key role in the following topics: Technical focus on climate change adaptation to support the development of adaptation guidelines, frameworks and strategies, as well as assessments on vulnerability and risks, climate transparency and NDC systems, tools, strategies, and relevant policy documents in support of country objectives Policies, strategy, and frameworks to review and contribute to mainstreaming climate change and green growth into projects and/or initiatives. Support GGGI Mexico country office in supervising programs, projects, and projectโ€™s components to address climate change. Support the mobilization of resources for the implementation of climate change interventions by developing partnerships with existing sources of finance, international conventions, and donors. As well as through the development of new project proposals. Delivery of capacity building programs, workshops, seminars, and other activities to improve the knowledge of stakeholders in selected countries.

ENGAGEMENT
The Senior Associate shall proactively engage in collaboration, knowledge-sharing, communications, and advocacy for advancing country efforts to meet Paris Agreement commitments by: Building and leveraging collaboration with and resources from international organizations (including the UNFCCC), partnerships, and platforms as well as research institutions, academic institutions, and other organizations, where relevant, to support project implementation. Engaging and collaborating with key GGGI staff, including other country teams, throughout the project design and implementation process and supporting in-country technical advisory services. Engaging and collaborating with the donors focus on climate change efforts. Supporting stakeholder engagement, visioning exercises, consultations, and other activities necessary to formulate systems, strategies, and relevant policy documents. Engaging, where necessary, with government and non-government counterparts to support relevant project and policy implementation.

DELIVERY
The Senior Associate is responsible for supporting and, in some cases, leading technical assistance activities as part of GGGIโ€™s efforts to promote integrated planning for climate resilient green growth. Relevant tasks will include: Conducting, supporting, and sharing research, analysis, and insights on relevant climate change adaptation issues with an application of oneโ€™s technical experts Ensuring quality of project outputs, activities, and deliverables and project reporting are completed and submitted on a timely basis. Overseeing individual consultants and/or small consultancy projects. Reviewing project outputs for quality control and addressing delivery issues with internal and external project collaborators. Preparing relevant technical studies, guidelines, reports, and publications where applicable; and Preparing relevant, high-quality communications materials (fact sheets, project brochures, media releases, website content, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelorโ€™s or (or higher) in fields relevant to the described position (such as environmental policy/economy, engineering, environmental science, geophysics, environmental resources management, atmospheric sciences, geography, climate change or any related fields); Preferred minimum five (5) years of experience in climate change with at least three (3) years in vulnerability and risks assessments, accounting and analysis, and conception, design, and implementation of adaptation actions at project, sectoral, or national levels. Experience in international organizations working with developing countries is a plus. Experience with designing and implementing capacity building activities aimed at enhancing country capacity to measure (monitor), report, verify and model climate scenarios. Experience in quantitative data analysis, and the ability to produce compelling insights from the analysis of issues related to adaptation. Experience with climate modeling and pathways/scenario development is a plus. Proven experience leading or supporting project delivery, i.e. managing/supporting the delivery of results on time and on budget. Fluency in written and spoken English and/or Spanish; knowledge of other languages relevant to GGGI partner countries is required.

Strong understanding of the concepts of climate change (adaptation), of green growth and/or sustainable development in the context of developing countries, of sectoral issues and policy and regulatory approaches in developing and emerging countries, and of recent developments and global trends in the area of specialization. Excellent multi-cultural literacy and interest in being a part of an international team working in an evolving and entrepreneurial environment. Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, along with strong synthesis and strategic thinking skills. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams. Willingness to travel frequently as part of project implementation within Mexico and possibly elsewhere.

WORKING CONDITIONS The Adaptation and Climate change Senior Associate is an X7 grade level in GGGIโ€™s Country salary scale. For the X7 Mexico salary scale. Determination of base salary is subject to candidate's experience, academic background, and internal equity. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, and private health insurance that covers dental and vision.
