What will you do in this position?
The Security Officer will provide effective support to the WFP Ukraine Senior Security Officer and WFP security team in in the context of the humanitarian operations within WFPโs Response in Ukraine. The role will also enable the effective delivery of programs and maintain the security and safety of WFP personnel, activities, and facilities.
The Security Officer will independently analyze and contextualize complex security information that identifies impact on WFP operations and formulate recommendations for decision-making and programming.
The Security Officer reports directly to the Senior Programme Policy Officer (Agriculture Mine Action Project) and technically to the Senior Security Officer and will be based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, with assignments to other field offices within WFP Ukraine operation.

WFP uses a flexible mix of food and cash assistance to support communities affected by the war wherever they are. This includes working with local partners to distribute food rations in areas near the frontline and providing cash transfers wherever people have access to banks and markets to buy food. Since March 2022, WFP has distributed food and cash assistance equivalent to 2.4 billion meals to families displaced and affected by the war, partnering directly with local responders.

How can you make a difference?
Ukraine has been embroiled in a full-scale conflict for the past two years, resulting in significant civilian casualties. In the Kharkiv oblast alone, 2,355 individuals have been killed, including 79 children. Approximately one-third of Ukraine's territory, covering up to 174,000 square kilometers, is under the threat of landmines and explosive remnants of war, putting over 6 million people at risk. Kharkiv city and its surrounding areas, due to the volatility of the ongoing conflict and their proximity to the Russian border, are subject to constant attacks from Russian Federation forces. The security situation is not expected to improve.
