UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Global Operations Unit of the Private Sector Partnership Service under the Division of External Relations at UNHCR Copenhagen.

This exciting internship is a unique opportunity to gain experience with UNHCRโ€™s PSP fundraising development activities in support of the refugee cause, as well as valuable experience working within the UN system.

Organizational Context

The Global Operations team sits within the Fundraising Support Section in the Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) in the Division of External Relations (DER).

The Global Operations team coordinates the annual planning process and overall performs financial planning, monitoring, and reporting on performance in the fundraising network. The team is responsible for managing the National Growth Fund, which is the main source of investment in PSP fundraising programs. The Global Operations team also supports the PSP network of UNHCR offices and National Partners in monitoring implementation and fundraising performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player, with a strong interest in data analysis, resource management, reporting, and refugee issues, to complete a six-eight months internship with the Global Operations team.

The internโ€™s duties and responsibilities will include:

โ€ข Assist in financial planning, monitoring, and reporting tasks by using various data sources and tools to provide data insights in the form of numeric and narrative analytic reports, presentations, and other documents related to PSPโ€™s investment fund.
โ€ข Assist in resource management activities by utilizing different data sources and tools to monitor implementation rate and support budget reallocation.
โ€ข Assist in the development and revision of internal and external guidance documents by capturing key procedures and drafting instructive guidelines.
โ€ข Assist in the planning and execution of in-person and digital meetings and events led by the Global Operations team.
โ€ข Provide any other required support, including procurement and administrative support, to the team and the wider Section.

Minimum qualifications and professional experience required

Minimum qualifications required

The ideal candidate will:
โ€ข Possess a university-level degree in a relevant field, for example Social Sciences, Business and Economics, International Relations, Communications, etc.;
โ€ข Be fluent in English, with advanced writing and editing skills;
โ€ข Have advanced experience using the Microsoft Office suite, with particular attention to advanced experience using Microsoft Excel;
โ€ข Have strong analytical and organizational skills;
โ€ข Have design and document formatting skills and be detail-oriented;
โ€ข Be tech-savvy and have a keen interest in budgeting, reports and fundraising;
โ€ข Show a genuine desire to learn and adapt;
โ€ข Possess strong inter-personal skills and be a keen team-player.

Desirable skills and experience

โ€ข Experience with web analytics tools and SharePoint;
โ€ข Knowledge of a second UN language (Arabic/Chinese/French/Russian/Spanish);
โ€ข Good knowledge and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques.

Eligibility

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โ€ข Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
โ€ข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.

NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Location and Conditions

The successful candidate will be based with the team in the UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The internship is for six months, with the possibility of extension to eight months, and the expected start date is 1 March 2024. It is a full-time role with 40 working hours per week.

Shortlisted candidates might be required to sit for a written test. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. No late applications will be accepted.

For non-EU candidates, D-visa needs to be obtained prior to traveling to Denmark which could takes up to 8 weeks. The office will provide assistance on visa-related issues.

Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.

Unless provided or paid by their sponsoring entities, UNHCR reimburses internsโ€™ travel costs to/from the duty station.
