Terms of Reference1. General Background
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist refugees and other persons of concern.
The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Service sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. UNHCR have developed a $1 Billion Private Sector Fundraising Strategy 2018-2025. This strategy focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Partnerships and Philanthropy, identifying and focusing on priority fundraising markets and regions.
With the rapid growth of the Islamic Philanthropy sector and given the increasing desire by Zakat donors and institutions to channel Zakat funds to refugees โ more than 50% of whom are originating from Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries โ PSP MENA piloted a first Zakat programme in 2017, which led to the launch of the Refugee Zakat Fund in 2019: a trusted, compliant and effective distributor maximizing the power of Zakat and Sadaqah to transform the lives of refugees. Since 2017, the Fund enabled UNHCR to support more than 6 million people in 26 countries. Following this success, Islamic Philanthropy became a key focus area for PSP, presenting a tremendous opportunity to engage a new set of potential partners and use their collective impact to support the needs of refugees.
2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment
Under the supervision of the PSP Officer โ Islamic Philanthropy, the PSP Assistant will be part of the IP team to support colleagues over 20 countries in MENA, APAC, Americas, Africa and Europe grow IP income and partnerships in their respective markets. The PSP Assistant will be responsible to:
โข Compile information, proof-read and/or draft sections of UNHCRโs Islamic philanthropy annual report
โข Draft and shape project concept notes, proposals and impact reports, supporting fundraisers in MENA and globally
โข Conduct research, prepare presentations and draft talking points for UNHCR representatives
โข Create, edit and/or publish IP internal/ external content (in English and Arabic), including newsletters, SharePoint pages and social media posts, liaising with relevant colleagues
โข Support the organization of public events, including IP reports launch events
โข Support the organization of workshops, missions, compliance reviews, and other internal activities
โข Support account managers in creating, compiling and recording (Salesforce) cultivation plans for priority prospects
โข Research, identify and potentially directly reach out to prospects
โข Support the launch of new IP initiatives
โข Provide support for procurement requests including but not limited to requesting quotations, communicating with suppliers, and working with the admin team on all required documentation
โข Draft invites, thank you letters, and emails to donors
โข File due diligence requests on HNWIs and potential donors
โข Perform other relevant duties as needed.
3. Qualifications and Experience
a. Education
โข Secondary education with preferably a Bachelorโs degree in International Studies,Marketing/Business, Communications, or other related fields.
b. Work Experience
โข Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience with secondary education, in fundraising, sales,communication or other related fields
โข Experience working with Salesforce is an asset
โข Professional experience within the non-profit sector is desirable, but not essential.

โข Knowledge of the UN system preferably with UNHCR or another UN Agency is a plus.
4. Conditions and Location
This position is based in the UNHCR Office of Dubai, UAE. Candidate should have a valid residency in the UAE or a National of the UAE.
