  1. Role and responsibilities

    The Protection Coordinator will be responsible for supporting programme management with protection mainstreaming within the NRC Ukraine North Area Office in line with NRCโ€™s Protection Policy and global protection standards.ย  The Protection Coordinator will work with programme and support teams to develop protection mainstreaming tools and guidance to ensure protection is integrated within programme cycle management and will support staff and contractor capacity building through trainings and awareness raising sessions on minimum protection standards. The Coordinator will identify gaps in terms of field-based protection support and line manage any additional field-based protection staff.ย The Protection Coordinator will hold regular meetings with identified Programme (Protection) referral focal points to ensure quality in NRCโ€™s response to protection cases. The Coordinator will develop strong working relationships in Kyivska, Chernihivska, and field levels with protection actors and provide regular context analysis updates on key protection trends.ย

  2. Ensure compliance with NRC (global and national) policies and procedures, handbooks and guidelines and/or propose new initiatives to bridge gaps and implement these.
Develops systems and SOPs and makes sure they are implemented accordingly. Identify, analyse and evaluate key processes and gaps in the team activities and make recommendations for improvement. Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and/or stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities

Support the implementation of NRCโ€™s Protection Policy and global protection standards within Country Office through working with programme management.ย  Develop protection tools and guidance and continually update protection action plans to ensure integrated and safe programming.ย  Support the training, capacity building and mentoring of field staff and awareness raising of non-staff (contractors and incentive labour) on minimum protection standards.ย  Identify gaps in terms of field-based protection support and line manage any additional field-based protection staff to ensure support to programme management on specific programme initiatives and staff mentoring.ย  Support in project management, including budgeting, to ensure targets and expenditure are appropriately planned and implemented in line with NRC policies and internal workplans. Liaise and meet regularly with referral focal points to ensure quality in protection referrals in line with NRC internal SOPs.ย  Develop strong working relationships at the Country Office level, Area North level and field level with external protection actors and referral partners.ย  Represent NRC at the field level in protection coordination meetings. Produce regular context analysis updates on key protection trends and contribute to programme development discussions.ย  Competencies
