The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lebanon, with funding from the European Union (EU), has initiated theย โSustainable Energy for Public Services entities, entrepreneurship and innovationโ EU Support to Lebanonโs Green Agendaโ (CEDRO 6) project.ย
The CEDRO 6 project aims to enhance energy accessibility for the public sector, including the Lebanese Armed Forces, the Internal Security Forces, the Justice Court Houses, the Serails, public schools and non-public charity schools. Additionally, it strives to facilitate the private sector's adoption of solar energy, contributing to environmental sustainability, economic recovery, and job creation through the support of selected start-up initiatives, microgrids and capacity building of the work force.
Concurrently, UNDP will be also actively engaged in another KFW funded project, โImproving energy security and promoting the transition to sustainable energy in Lebanonโ.ย The project focuses on providing sustainable energy solutions for public services ensuring a reliable electricity supply through renewable energy and energy efficiency interventions to public hospitals and public educational facilities. Furthermore, the project will provide policy support in the renewable energy sector and support in the rehabilitation and upgrade of hydroelectric facilities owned by the electric utility EDL.
The UNDP is seeking to recruit one Project Engineer for this project with the main responsibility of providing the engineering support and operational coordination related primarily to the implementation of rehabilitation and upgrade works in hydroelectric facilities, and potentially supporting in some of the renewable energy and energy efficiency systems that will be installed across Lebanon.
ย Duties and Responsibilities
The Project Engineer will handle the technical and operational coordination related to the effective design, procurement, supervision and monitoring of the rehabilitation and upgrade project of the Nahr El Bared Hydroelectric facilities and the studies for a potential add-on of a Solar Farm and Hydro Pumped Storage solution in the same area. The Project Engineer will potentially provide additional support to energy efficiency and renewable energy demonstration projectsas well. A technical consultantancy firm will be backstopping the team for the Hydroelectric rehabilitation and upgrade works and the add-on studies.

2. Reporting and Outreach
Develop and prepare commissioning and progress reports as needed. Support in liaising with project partners, counterparts, beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries for the proper implementation of the Hydroelectric, EE/RE projects;ย Liaise with relevant public, private and non-governmental sector institutions for the coordination of specifications and technology transfer;ย Support in the design and implementation of the various trainings and capacity building workshops that are organized by the project to transfer technology to beneficiaries and counterparts.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ยInstitutional Arrangement
Theย Project Engineer will be working under the overall guidance of the Project Manager/Advisor ย and the Project Coordinator. The Project Engineer will have one Junior Site Engineer under his/her supervision and will be responsible of one Project initiative. The Project Engineer will also be required to provide support to other team members and other initiatives as needed. The incumbent will be based in Beirut and will have frequent travel to the project sites in Lebanon with focus on the Nahr El Bared area

Advanced university degree (Masterโs degree or equivalent) in energy, mechanical, electrical or civil Engineering or closely related field, is required; or A first level University degree (Bachelorโs degree or equivalent) in the related fields with additional 2 years of relevant experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree. Min. years of relevant Work experienceย Up to 2 years (with Masterยดs degree) or minimum 2 years (with Bachelorโs degree) of progressive relevant experience in designing and implementing renewable energy applications is required. Requiredย skills and competencies Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat and Autocad is required; Desired additional skills and competencies Previous experience in working on Hydroelectric Projects with installed capacity equal or larger to 5 MW; Previous experience in working on Rehabilitation and Upgrade of Industrial facilities; Previous experience in Training and Capacity Building; Previous experience in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency; Proficency in one of the following energy engineering design software: HPP Design, Flow 3D Hydro, HES, PEACH, Smart Mini Idro or equivalent; Previous experience in working with the Lebanese Public Sector institutions; Previous experience with UN, UNV, or international organization(s).
