Mission and objectives UNDPโs Global Programme on Nature for Development brings together three different initiatives under one program โ the Equator Initiative, the National Biodiversity Initiative, and the Global Forest Initiative โ in order to identify, foster, showcase and celebrate nature-based solutions that help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at local, national and international levels. The work of the Global Programme on Nature for Development contributes to UNDPโs Strategic Plan 2014-2017 by charting sustainable development pathways through the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems; and by promoting inclusive and effective democratic governance in the area of natural resources.
ContextThe National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP) Accelerator Partnership (AP) is a country-led global initiative aimed at supporting the accelerated implementation of biodiversity strategies and actions to achieve the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) targets by 2030. As part of its support to countries, the Partnership is preparing a set of important strategic documents, including guidance notes on the Matchmaking Mechanism process flow, which are essential for enabling countries to access technical and financial support. To ensure these resources are accessible to a broader audience and can effectively support international outreach and country engagement, translations into additional UN languages are needed.
Task Description UNDP is seeking professional online volunteer to support the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership by translating important strategic documents from English into Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Russian. These documents include guidance materials that explain the structure, purpose, and steps of the Matchmaking Mechanism โ a key tool to connect countries with partners and resources for biodiversity implementation. The translated documents will support direct engagement with country partners, allowing national stakeholders to better understand and use the tools provided by the Partnership. Volunteers will be expected to provide high-quality, professional translations with attention to technical terminology, clarity, and consistency. Final documents will be provided in editable format, and proofreading is part of the task to ensure quality and accuracy. Volunteers will be paired to proofread and peer-review each otherโs work, supporting mutual learning and quality assurance. They will also contribute to the development of a translation database for the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership. Volunteers are expected to commit approximately 16โ20 hours per week. Based on the complexity of the content, this typically translates to 15โ18 pages per week, including time for translation, proofreading, and collaboration.
