5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesFor two decades, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has been helping make the world safer from drugs, organized crime, corruption and terrorism. We are committed to achieving health, security and justice for all by tackling these threats and promoting peace and sustainable well-being as deterrents to them. Because the scale of these problems is often too great for states to confront alone, UNODC offers practical assistance and encourages transnational approaches to action. We do this in all regions of the world through our global programmes and network of field offices. The Office is committed to supporting Member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its core. The 2030 Agenda clearly recognizes that the rule of law and fair, effective and humane justice systems, as well as health-oriented responses to drug use, are both enablers for and part of sustainable development. The Border Management Branch was created in April 2022 to deliver collaborative and comprehensive border management technical assistance to Member States. The Branch includes UNODC's Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP), the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), the Criminal Network Disruption Programme (GPCD) and the UNODC Environment Team, which runs the Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment.

ContextThe Criminal Disruption Programme is developing its work on the important topic of FMP. The progarmme development is being carried out in a cooperative inter-team and inter-agency context, providing many opportunities to learn about what various organizations are doing in the field and where UNODC can compliment those efforts in supporting Member States in a criminal justice and border management response. The assignment will be an Online Volunteer with the expectation to work 11-15 hours per week. The Online Volunteer will work with the Head of the Criminal Disruption Programme and the Lead on FMP, engaging through email and online meetings.

Task DescriptionFor the objective of this assignment, support programme development in the area of Trafficking in Falsified Medical Products (FMP), we are looking for 2 Online Volunteers. Specifically, under the supervision of the Head of the Criminal Network Disruption Programme, the Online Volunteer is asked to: - Prepare and conduct desk review to identify needs and opportunities for programme development in the area of FMP; - Support the drafting of concept notes (4) on the topic of FMP; - Support the drafting of a short (2 page) issues paper on FMP The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to build connections with the team at UNODC BMB and learn about programme development.
