Program Overview for Climate

At WRI Indiaโ€™s Climate Program, we focus on integrated solutions that can enable a low-carbon transition in India, while ensuring that the transition is equitable and just for its people and protects natural resources. Through applied research, the use of frameworks and tools, partnerships with key stakeholders and ground-level implementation, we seek to achieve impact at scale.

About your role:

WRI India is looking for suitable candidates to lead stakeholder and policy engagement for its projects within the Climate Program. The selected candidate will lead stakeholder engagement activities including the design, planning and organisation of consultations, dialogues and workshops to support the Climate Programโ€™s work on low-carbon development pathways at the national and subnational levels. The candidate will build partnerships and lead strategic engagement with diverse stakeholders including the government, academia, industry, and civil society organizations.

The candidate will also contribute to the design and organisation of capacity building programs for government officials on strengthening climate action planning. The candidate will contribute to writing policy briefs and reports based on policy analyses, policy dialogues and stakeholder engagement.

The selected candidate will need to coordinate and work with the Climate Program, other WRI teams and its partner organizations to plan and execute project activities in a timely manner. The selected candidate might be required to travel to present and participate in conferences/ workshops and meetings on climate policy. The candidate should have an excellent understanding of energy/climate landscape in the country, demonstrated experience in organizing project engagement activities especially with national/ subnational governments, and preferably prior experience in designing and executing capacity building programs. It is also desirable that the candidate has prior experience in working with diverse stakeholders and coordinating with large teams.

How you day will unfold:

The policy engagement lead/ manager will undertake a range of tasks as listed below.

Identify and build partnerships with think tanks, public research/training institutes and universities to collaboratively conduct research and capacity building related to climate change mitigation and adaptation at national and state level.Identify platforms, opportunities and channels for policy engagement, including with relevant line ministries of national/state governments.Build strategic relationships and engage with different government ministries/ industry/ stakeholders at the national and subnational level.Design and organize multistakeholder dialogues that convene stakeholders from across academia, industry, think tanks and government on sectoral and cross-cutting themes at national and state-levels.Participate in designing and conducting capacity building workshops for government officials and civil servants.Lead/ manage small teams to organize dialogues/ workshops/ capacity building and training sessions.Coordinate with the team and other external collaborators/ consultants through regular meetings and plan project activities in a timely manner.Contribute to writing policy briefs drawing on insights from the multistakeholder dialogues and government/ industry engagement.Contribute to the production of event summary reports and proceedings.Represent the program at government, civil society and industry-led events and effectively present policy insights and research findings to diverse stakeholders.Coordinate with program communications team in designing innovative and effective strategies for communicating climate policy research to different audiences.Contribute to ideation, reviews, and proposal writing for ongoing and future projects in the team.Stay updated on the policy landscape, sectoral developments, and industry trends in relation to climate policy and just transitions.Requirements and skills that we seek:
Post graduate degree in a relevant discipline such as environmental management, urban/ environmental planning, public policy, economics, development studies, or related subjects. Minimum of 10-12 years of full-time work experience in the environment-development sector with an excellent understanding of climate/ energy policy issues and ecosystem in India.Prior experience in actively engaging with the government, academic institutions, civil society organizations and industry in India.Prior experience in organising and conducting stakeholder consultations and workshops.Prior experience in designing/ conducting training/ capacity building programs.Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams, building partnerships and engagement with government and non-government stakeholders.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work and engage different team members across different teams and functions.Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to convey complex issues in an accessible manner tailored to different audiences.Excellent time management and organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.Willingness to travel to project locations, organize/ participate in workshops and capacity building sessions.

Salary and Benefits: 20,00,000 to 24,00,000 CTC PA

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year (Extendable based on performance and project requirements)
