Project Overview
Maximizing Options to Advance Informed Choice for HIV Prevention (MOSAIC) is a five-year (2021-2026) global project funded by the U.S. Presidentโs Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to help women protect themselves from HIV by accelerating introduction and scale-up of new biomedical prevention products.
The MOSAIC consortium is led by FHI 360 along with core partners Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, Pangaea Zimbabwe AIDS Trust (PZAT), LVCT Health, Jhpiego, and AVAC. The work will also be supported by technical partners from Afton Bloom, Avenir Health, Columbia University, Mann Global Health, RTI International, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Washington.
MOSAIC Approach
MOSAICโs objective is to ensure that individualsโespecially womenโcan protect themselves from acquiring HIV and other infectious diseases by accelerating introduction and scale-up of new biomedical prevention products and expediting their availability, acceptance, uptake, and impact. To achieve this objective, MOSAIC will work in alignment with the following five priorities:
Ensure a user-centered approach in which the needs and preferences of usersโespecially adolescent girls and young womenโare understood and addressed in product introduction and scale-up Conduct research to expand the evidence base on how to effectively enhance product availability acceptability Coordinate and provide technical assistance to global, national, and subnational stakeholders to expedite product introduction in policy and practice by addressing issues related to regulatory review, policy development, resource mobilization, supply chain, delivery models and platforms and demand creation Implement research utilization activities and establish mechanisms for rapid, effective knowledge exchange among key stakeholders to ensure existing and emerging evidence on product introduction and scale-up is applied in policy and practice Strengthen and sustain local partner capacity to advocate for, design, and implement high-quality product introduction activities and research
Position Description
The Nurse Prevention Mentor will support the MOSAIC projects and, in support to the Ministry of Health PrEP Lead, be responsible for capacitating health care workers and civil societies on new biomedical prevention products in the country.
Key Responsibilities
Capacity building, Training and mentoring
- Coordinate and conduct training and ongoing mentoring in biomedical HIV prevention for health care workers, community partners and civil societies.
- Compile frequently asked questions related to HIV prevention from HCWs, civil society and end-users.
- Provide real time responses to PrEP related questions in social media
Research
- Support training, implementation and monitoring of pilot studies on new HIV prevention products.
- Work closely with MOSAIC-Eswatiniโs management and technical team to support the synthesis and curation of evidence and experience emerging from MOSAIC-Eswatiniโs biomedical HIV prevention research and program activities
Monitoring/quality improvement
- Collaborate with RU/KM officer to monitor, document and share project accomplishments, most significant change stories on HIV prevention, challenges, and lessons learned among internal and external partners for policy dialogue, advocacy and future programming.
- Identify and support QI processes for HCWโs and work with end-users on customer satisfaction surveys.
Knowledge sharing
- Promote knowledge sharing by support social media live sessions and social media blogs on HIV prevention products.
- Supports dissemination efforts for MOSAIC-Eswatiniโs biomedical HIV prevention research and program efforts, ensuring that project resources, lessons learned, and study findings are shared with appropriate global, regional, national, and sub-national audiences
- Participation in meetings with the MOSAIC RU/KM team sharing their insights on both successes and failures in the field to ensure collective learning.
Minimum requirements
- BSc. Nursing or equivalent Nursing Qualification
- NARTIS training a requirement
- Professional Registration with the Eswatini Nursing Council
- At least 4 yearsโ experience in HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment and providing Nurse mentorship support
- Experience working with CBO/NGOs in community/ youth/ gender related structures, engagement, training facilitation and research
- Sound understanding of HIV-related needs of key and priority populations in Eswatini, including female sex workers and adolescent girls and young women.
Skills and Attributes
- Good communication skills and able to speak and write in English and Siswati.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively with health care workers, community members and community leaders.
- Basic computer literacy and have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Be adaptable, approachable, empathetic and willing to take initiative. Knowledge on HIV prevention, care and treatment is an advantage.
- Evidence of good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Evidence of good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills and successful teamwork.
- Experience developing and maintaining productive working relations with healthcare workers.
- Familiar with U.S. Government monitoring and evaluation requirements, in particular PEPFAR.
- Should be self-starter, creative, social media savvy, passionate hardworking and self- motivated.
