Introduction
The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 243 projects in 129 countries and has committed USD 13.5 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

Position Objective
GCF is seeking an experienced, dynamic and motivated Media Senior Specialist. S/he will develop all aspects of GCFโ€™s media presence to build and maintain the Fundโ€™s reputation for impact. The role will lead the professionalization of our media approach, tools and relationships, ensuring that climate action is front and centre of regional and global media agenda. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of various international and regional media channels, excellent communication skills, and a passion for finding the right story for the right audience.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Innovate media strategies that expand GCFโ€™s influence and reach wider audience
  • Manage and optimize GCFโ€™s presence across various media platforms, including traditional media (print and broadcast) and online;
  • Lead on topline corporate messaging for media through talking points and messaging briefs;
  • Support executive communications by drafting remarks and messaging briefs and providing media guidance to the executive team;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers, and industry professionals;
  • Support media initiatives led by GCFโ€™s developing country partners;
  • Support media crisis management and PR responses to maintain GCFโ€™s reputation;
  • Monitor media performance metrics and analyze data to identify areas of improvement and measure the success of media campaigns.

    Expected experience and qualifications:

    • First-level university degree in communications, media studies, journalism or or a related field, or commensurate qualifying work experience;
    • A minimum of 11 years of professional experience as a media specialist, or a similar role in the media industry;
    • Previous experience working in a similar role in UN agencies or other international organization highly desired;
    • Demonstrable international media relationships with leading regional and global media; and ability to craft compelling content for different media channels;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of another UN language an advantage;
    • Strong analytical skills to interpret media metrics and data effectively.
    • Creativity and ability to think outside the box when developing media campaigns.
    • In-depth knowledge of various media platforms, including social media, content management systems, and digital marketing tools.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple campaigns simultaneously.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
    • Bright and innovative with the ability to work at a fast pace and under tight deadlines;
    • Experience in establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds; and
    • Adept at handling media crises and providing swift and effective responses.
