UNOPS in Somalia

UNOPS has been operating in Somalia since 1995, providing implementation and advisory support for various development initiatives in the areas of infrastructure, project management, procurement and financial services. Based in Mogadishu, the Somalia Country Office is currently implementing 19 projects across Somalia worth over $170m. From delivering high quality infrastructure for public services to facilitating the reform of the security sector and supporting crisis recovery, UNOPS is an established partner of government and donors alike in Somalia's path towards reconstruction and state-building.

Job Specific Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Field Security Advisor, the mechanic/driver will deliver quality driving service through well maintained vehicles and safe driving and conducting vehicle repairs.
Functional Responsibilities
Summary of Functions:

Travel and safety Maintenance of the assigned vehicle Data Logs 1. Travel and safety

Travel to remote locations to facilitate vehicle recovery and servicing and repairs as needed.

Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other supplies and equipment within and outside the duty station as directed by the supervisors.

Responsible for ensuring all passengers adhere to strict safety protocols during AV and convoy operations, such as wearing seat belts, helmets, vests, etc.

Expected to participate in regular drills and updates on security protocols and procedures, and be familiar with the UN security management system and the specific security situation in the duty station.

2. Maintenance of the assigned vehicle

Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: carry out driver responsible tasks as detailed by supervisor, and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition.

3. Data logs

Log official trips, daily mileage, gas/fuel consumption, and assist with the annual vehicle inspection and registration by the Ministry of Transport. Impact of Results:

The effective and successful achievement of results by the mechanic/driver directly impacts the efficient and effective management of transport. The measurable output of work assignment is delivery of quality driving service through well maintaining of vehicle and safe driving and conducting vehicle repairs.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Qualifications and Experience:

A. Education

Completion of Secondary school (High School or Equivalent) is required. Certification
Motor Vehicle Mechanics Certification is an asset.

B. Work Experience

Relevant experience of 4 years in vehicle physical repairs, maintenance OR vehicle driving experience is required, 2 yearsโ€™ experience working in the Mogadishu area is required. A valid Somali driverโ€™s license for operating manual transmission vehicles is required. Experience with vehicles with the left-side steering wheel is required.

C. Language Requirements

For this position, fluency in English Language (i.e. writing, reading and speaking) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset. Knowledge of Somali local languages is desirable. Competencies
