The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

Purpose of the assignment

The Division of Public Partnerships (PPD) works to strengthen UNICEFโ€™s position as a partner of choice for childrenโ€™s rights among governments and public actors around the world. The intern will acquire direct practical experience in PPD Tokyoโ€™s work and the United Nations system by supporting the officeโ€™s advocacy, communication, and visibility activities, under the general guidance of the supervisor (Public Partnership Specialist).

Specific tasks:

Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Specialist, PPD Tokyo, the intern will

Assist the Teamโ€™s efforts to enhance donor visibility and UNICEFโ€™s advocacy messages by gathering and organising information for key counterparts and media Update and improve the Tokyo officeโ€™s website and social media accounts as necessary Assist the team in translating UNICEF messages, press releases, and other publications Provide logistical support for events, consultations, and workshops that the office will organize Any other tasks assigned by the supervisorย 

Duration of assignment: Between July 2024 and December 2024 (more than 3 months, up to 6 months)

The duty station is Tokyo, Japan.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will haveโ€ฆย 

Currently enrolled in a university or a graduate school or those who graduated from schools within two years. Professional experiences are desirable. Available for work in the office at least 4 days per week for 3-6 months. Interested in child rights, child protection, education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, gender, and so on. Experience and/or knowledge of international cooperation as well as humanitarian and development assistance. Experience in translating communication materials is highly desirable.ย ย ย  Experience in public relations and/or event management is an asset. Experience in video editing is an asset. A high level of proficiency in both written and oral languages of English and Japanese is required. Ability to work with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Payment of stipend: PPD Tokyo will provide a lump sum of JPY 5,500/ day, inclusive of transport costs.ย ย ย 

Work modality:ย Work modality is negotiable. ย Depending on the team's schedule which follows PPD Tokyo's hybrid work modality (combination of working in the office/teleworking), interns may be asked to work from home on a certain number of days in a week.ย 

The selected candidate is solely responsible for ensuring that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract.ย Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).ย
