I. MSF INTERNATIONAL

Mรฉdecins Sans Frontiรจres (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. MSF International is the legal entity that binds MSFโ€™s 24 sections, 25 associations and other offices together. Based in Geneva, MSF International provides coordination, information and support to the MSF movement, and implements international projects and initiatives as requested.


II. OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION

This interim position will cover a four-month period of maternity leave. The role contributes to and implements the content direction for MSFโ€™s institutional website and social media channels in Arabic. The International Arabic Content and Social Media Editor curates communications packages in Arabic produced by field-based communications teams to be published on the website and on social media channels in a creative and engaging format. They also write, edit and maintain content on the themes and countries where we work, co-producing short public reporting documents on crises. The Arabic Content and Social Media Editor also coordinates the production of MSFโ€™s annual International Activity Report in Arabic, and provides editorial advice in Arabic linked to MSFโ€™s operations.

The International Arabic Content and Social Media Editor is part of the International Editorial Unit within the Communications Department (IO Comms) of MSF International. They are managed by the Head of the International Editorial Unit (based in Geneva) and work in close collaboration with other members of the IO Comms team (currently based across Geneva, Barcelona, Brussels, Dubai, Nairobi and Montreal).

They have regular contact and collaboration with communication staff in MSF offices and field projects. They work closely with colleagues throughout MSFโ€™s communication network, particularly those based in offices in the Middle East region, who produce content in Arabic and manage digital communications in Arabic.

The IO Comms team manages several tools on behalf of the MSF movement, namely the global website, msf.org (which is bilingual English/Arabic), the International Activity Report, the international Media Database and digital channels including the @MSF X/Twitter account. The team also safeguards the use of the MSF brand and logo, leads the movementโ€™s editing and digital working groups, and often acts as a conduit and source of information between MSF field, operational and home society communications teams.

The Editorial Unit is responsible in maintaining the editorial line and language quality of msf.org, and ensuring the timely publication of communication priorities and key public positioning on both the website and on social media channels. The Unit includes Content and Social Media Editors for English and Arabic, and an assistant who supports the unit and the wider team.


IV. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. MSF.org in Arabic

Contribute to and implement the content and dissemination strategy of msf.org.Edit and proofread content in Arabic received from the wider organisation, preparing it for publication on the website.Creatively curate and publish content and articles in Arabic on msf.org, ensuring it meets our editorial line and standards, and is optimised for search engines.On an ad-hoc basis, contribute to field or operational communications initiatives by including msf.org and MSF social media channels in Arabic we contribute to as a strategic tool in their dissemination plan Work with the International Content and Social Media Editor to ensure pages remain current and follow the editorial line of the website, maintaining updates of static and country pages.Work with the Content and Social Media Editor in maintaining the mapping of, and scheduling updates to, website contentSupport the publishing of content in English to msf.org and our institutional social media channels, during holidays and heavy workload periods.

2. MSF social media channels in Arabic

In partnership with MSF UAE, provide limited support on the posting of priorities and key public positioning messages in Arabic on regional Arabic social media channels, including on X/Twitter Provide limited support, on an as-requested basis, for community management on MSF Arabic social medial channels and flags major questions or issues

3. International Activity Report (IAR)

โ— Coordinates the planning, execution and publication of the International Activity Report, MSFโ€™s movement-wide annual report, in Arabic.

โ— Support the International Content and Social Media Editor in the production of the IAR in English.

โ— Safeguard the IARโ€™s accuracy, readability and relevance

4. Editorial and content support

Work in collaboration with the MENA teams to coordinate the translation of operational priorities content (content listed in CWA) into Arabic. Work in collaboration with the MENA teams to provide editorial support in Arabic for the movement. When needed, translate and edit content in Arabic for use across the movement

5. Other duties

Take part in the weekend on-call rota for urgent Arabic translation and publishing communications on msf.org/ar Take on projects or dossiers delegated by the Head of the International Editorial Unit or by the International Communications Coordinator
