The Missile Defense Project (MDP) assesses critical issues on air and missile defense, deterrence, and U.S. national security. The successful applicant would collaborate with MDP fellows on special projects related to directed energy systems, Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control (CJADC2), and space situational awareness. The program is looking to hire an intern for anAugust5, 2024, start date. The intern is expected to work five days a week, Monday through Friday, for a total of 35 hours/week. The position will be predominantly in-person with some flexibility for remote working.ย  ย  The hired candidate will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($17.50/hour for current undergraduate hires, $18.50/hour for hires with a bachelorโ€™s degree, and $19.50/hour for hires with a masterโ€™s degree). ย  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: ย  โ€ข Collection and interpretation of technical source material โ€ข Research support on directed energy, space, and information systems subject matter โ€ข Modeling and simulation โ€ข Support in report and presentation production ย  KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: ย  โ€ข Technical literacy and strong interest in relating policy and technical topics. Successful applicants will be expected to assess programs and technologies related to sensor fusion, computer vision, radar, advanced optical systems, and their associated value chains, such as for infrared and multispectral focal plane arrays. โ€ข Strong open-source research and information management competencies. โ€ข Strong written and oral communication skills tailored for a policy audience. โ€ข Familiarity with U.S. foreign policy and national security issues. โ€ข Must be at least a college junior, graduate student, or a recent graduate. โ€ข Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institutionย  or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution. ย  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS: ย  This position will be based out of our Washington DC headquarters and is expected to be in-office 3+ days per week.
