Work LocationNairobi, Kenya Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground Governance, policy, and advocacy are crucial components of UNEPโs Climate Security initiatives in Somalia. UNEPโs focus is on fostering robust governance frameworks, providing support for developing environmental policies, and building capacity for climate security solutions. The Governance, Policy, and Advocacy Intern will support UNEPโs work in engaging with stakeholders, contributing to shaping policies, and strengthening governance mechanisms related to climate security in Somalia. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Climate Security Advisor, the intern will work on: 1. Policy and Governance Support: o Assist in research and advocacy in collaboration with Somali government partners. o Contribute to learning and capacity-building efforts on climate security. o Engage in policy-related research and advocacy tasks. 2. Stakeholder Engagement: o Support coordination and meetings with stakeholders, including government and regional entities. o Attend JOSP governance meetings and provide relevant inputs. 3. Event and Meeting Participation: o Provide administrative and substantive support to meetings, including taking minutes. o Attend relevant events in Nairobi and support event organization as needed. 4. Advocacy and Outreach: o Draft content for advocacy materials and contribute to public outreach activities. o Support UNEPโs climate security campaigns and policy dialogues. 5. General Support: o Assist with logistics, coordination, and preparation of background documents for the team. o Support other tasks as necessary to fulfill the objectives of the Climate Security program. Qualifications/special skillsCurrently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program in politics, international relations, or related fields. Languagesโข Proficiency in English (spoken and written). Knowledge of another UN language is an asset. Competencies โข Strong understanding of governance, policy analysis, and advocacy strategies. โข Excellent communication and organizational skills. โข Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to a multicultural environment. โข Proficiency in research and report writing.
