Terms of ReferenceThis is a home-based contractor position.
This contractor position will be split between two roles:
1. Coordinate the project โInspireโ: 50% of this contractor position will be focused on coordinating the project and guiding the employee promotors on a daily basis, reporting to the Senior Transition Coordinator within the Global Learning and Development Centre (GLDC), with a dotted line to the Chief of the Social Media Section in the Global Communications Service (DER/GCS). This part of the consultancy is funded by the GLDC.
The project aims to optimize the use of UNHCR colleaguesโ LinkedIn profiles to increase UNHCRโs visibility and promote the impact of the organizationโs work. So-called UNHCR โLinkedIn promotorsโ will use their individual LinkedIn profiles to post and re-share content about UNHCR e.g., their own work and expertise, UNHCR vacancies; UNHCR stories, UNHCR calls for action etc. Objectives:
โข Increase in scope of outreach for better talent acquisition and recruitment of talent;
โข Improve UNHCRโs (employee) branding;
โข Increase fundraising and partnerships through increased engagement with partners;
โข Extend the reach of UNHCRโs thought leadership with governments, academia, public, private sector etc.;
โข Support UNHCRโs employees to create social media platforms to engage with governments, academia and private sector;
โข Encourage employee advocacy on an organization-wide level (across all units including UNHCR national staff).
A group of 200-250 UNHCR employees will receive training as โLinkedIn promotorโ. Each promotor will participate in 3 x 1-hour masterclasses (online seminars) โ delivered in partnership with LinkedIn. In addition, promotors will undertake minor assignments between masterclasses including optimizing their LinkedIn profile. Upon completion, they will receive a โLinkedIn verifiedโ badge and a joint UNHCR/LinkedIn certificate.
Among the UNHCR LinkedIn promotors, a select smaller group will be supported more closely by the consultant to create posts on relevant topics to ensure momentum.
Finally, 2-3 senior staff, in addition to the Senior Executive Team, will be supported to post and re-post relevant content from the network of promotors and receive dedicated support for their LinkedIn profiles and posts.
UNHCR LinkedIn promotors will be recruited from the HR community, from DER and the global PI community, as well as from other groups of colleagues who are interested. The aim is to have 250 promotors, among which 25 will receive more dedicated support.
2. Support the Senior Executive Team of UNHCR with their personal social media accounts:
Draft suggested posts for LinkedIn and Twitter, proactively tapping into international days and opportunities (e.g. from brand evangelists/other brand champions), and provide continuous strategic advice, while reporting to the Chief of the Social Media Section in the Global Communications Service. This part of the consultancy requires funding by GCS/Social Media Section. Objectives:
โข Increase visibility of UNHCRโs work and impact
โข Position the UNHCR Senior Executive Team as leaders on global refugee issues
โข Support fundraising and partnership opportunities through increased engagement with partners on LinkedIn
โข Extend the reach of UNHCRโs thought leadership with governments, academia, public, private sector etc.
โข Support the implementation of the LinkedIn strategy for senior officials
โข Build momentum and engagement towards the Global Refugee Forum
All members of the Senior Executive Team are active on Twitter, some also on LinkedIn and other platforms. It is becoming increasingly hard to cut through the noise and get their voices heard by relevant audiences of government and private sector partners, donors, media and the people we work with and for. It requires dedicated capacity to stay on top of platform trends, tap into international days, events and other opportunities, and draft meaningful copy with high-quality visual content for their consideration. The role will support innovative communications through the social media accounts of leadership, particularly to build momentum and engagement towards the Global Refugee Forum.
The incumbent would need to be able to demonstrate some experience with the following:
โข Relevant university degree in communications, journalism, or related areas
โข Demonstrated experience in mobilizing and engaging online audiences through integrated digital and social media strategies
โข At least 5 years of experience managing social media accounts at the global level
โข Demonstrated experience developing and implementing social media strategies, digital marketing or editorial for an NGO, UN, advertisement, media, or publishing outlet
โข Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts of senior leadership of an international organization
โข Demonstrated experience in using LinkedIn strategically for an international organization
โข Excellent writing and visual content production skills
โข Demonstrated skills and experience in Canva, Trello and social media publishing tools
โข Experience in project management
โข Experience in social media reach and engagement monitoring and analysis, including reporting on quantitative and qualitative analytics
โข Fluent English and preferable an additional UN language
