The Team

The Development Team in Europe drives and supports Mercy Corpsโ€™ strategies for restricted, flexible and unrestricted funds, raising profile and influence. Within this department, the Direct Marketing team focuses on strategically growing our supporter base and generating unrestricted and flexible income to further our global work.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Direct Marketing, the Individual Giving officer will play a critical role within the Development Team primarily looking after our individual donors through the delivery of direct online and offline marketing and communications. You will support the delivery of individual giving and donations across acquisition and retention strategies including direct mail appeals, digital, lottery, stewardship materials and supporter journeys.

You will be responsible for campaign planning, testing, creative development, researching content and images for appeals, agency management and delivery and making sure that any appeal is run efficiently and effectively throughout.

You will play a key role in developing digital fundraising activities within Mercy Corps to maximise income, supporter acquisition and retention through digital channels, including social media, support engaging content creation, frictionless donations on digital channels and some website management.

You will work closely with members of the Development Team in Europe and global MarComms Team to support all fundraising initiatives through mass market, regular giving, legacy fundraising, corporate and foundation partnerships. You will identify storytelling and multichannel campaign opportunities that strengthen our relationships with current and future European supporters and partners, ensuring all content and messaging appropriately represents Mercy Corpsโ€™ brand and messaging; and provide analysis reports on key metrics and trends to inform decision making.

When a humanitarian crisis strikes, you will work closely with other members of the Development Team to rapidly develop appropriate reactive content and messaging for social media and website to inform and engage our audiences, coordinating with the wider MarComms and Development Teams as we develop a programmatic response.

Essential Responsibilities

Supporter Engagement

Proactively take a supporter centred approach to build relationships and maximise engagement and lifetime value with both existing and new supporters Demonstrate through engaging content Mercy Corpsโ€™ positive impact externally with donors through all communication channels to external supporters/donors

Supporter Retention

Proactively look after our individual giving, regular giving, mid level and legacy supporters to ensure they have an amazing supporter journey experience with us delivering engaging meaningful communications and messaging that will inspire further engagement and maximise retention of supporters

Supporter Acquisition

Working closely with other members of the Direct Marketing Team research and implement new activities and initiatives across Mercy Corps for acquisition of new supporters and donors. create a regular giving programme including welcoming new supporters and leading on the delivery of outstanding supporter journeys and stewardship

Digital Communications

Play a key role in developing digital fundraising activities to maximise income, supporter acquisition through lead generation activities and retention through digital channels Support engaging content creation and frictionless donations on digital platforms and website Work with the Senior Manager, Direct Marketing in Europe and global MarComms colleagues to support the delivery of a digital communications strategy for Europe focused on increased growth and engagement

Other

Create, manage and evaluate fundraising campaigns for donor retention and acquisition through a variety of income streams - legacy, direct mail, appeals, lottery, raffles etc. This will be done through a variety of marketing channels including print and digital ensuring are all in line with Mercy Corps brand guidelines and in line with direct marketing best practices Regular reporting on key metrics and providing analysis on a regular basis through reporting on acquisition and retention programmes, email response rates, google analytics etc Produce or edit digital content, including writing, copy editing and designing graphics/videos using Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Premier pro Support the development of content for email marketing and support other team members with relevant timely digital communications Regular monitoring of competitors and keeping up to date with key industry trends Share digital content ideas through participation in global editorial processes supporting our digital channelsEnsure UX consistency and brand guidelines are followed across all digital channels

Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role is someone who:

Significant digital marketing experience, including integrated campaign and appeal development and execution, content strategy, website content management and email marketing Has a deep understanding of the social media universe including Facebook, Twitter, , Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn and demonstrated knowledge of emerging platforms Is an excellent communicator and writer Has experience making improvements to processes Has ability to own the planning, development and implementation of projects Has computer skills including Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, social listening platforms and Google Analytics. Has the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining the respect of team members Is adept at working across teams and geographies Has a strong understanding for cultural, political and religious environments among staff and in the countries we work with Be driven by a passion for international development, social justice and ending global poverty Work well under deadline pressureBe willing to work flexibly to accommodate global calls across time zones and respond during emergencies (some evening and weekends as required)

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in the UK. Travel will be minimal. Mercy Corps team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in an international posting or on a visit/TDY to an international posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
