The Critical Minerals Intern will work with the program leads at WWF-US to shape the strategy and implementation of our work in accelerating renewable energy deployment in the US and abroad.

The intern will support in developing a theory of change around minimizing the impact on people and nature from the sourcing of materials (critical minerals) needed for clean energy technologies. Depending on the internโ€™s interests and skills, responsibilities could include mapping the landscape of private sector players in the critical minerals space, quantifying the impacts to landscapes and communities, developing nature- and community-minded mitigation strategies, etc. The intern will also support the development of an implementation plan to support the deployment of WWF-USโ€™s critical minerals strategy.

Responsibilities

Support in the compilation of research into the scale and scope of critical minerals needed to support the clean energy transition (i.e., minerals for batteries, electricity transmission, etc.) and the physical and social impacts the extraction and transformation of these resources could have on nature and local communities. Support in analyzing the opportunities for reuse and recycling of critical materials for RE deployment with the goal of minimizing the impacts of mineral extraction. Present findings from research in a manner that is engaging and digestible. Support in building a strategy that will guide WWF-USโ€™s future work on critical minerals for the clean energy transition. Provide support to team in developing and implementing that strategy, including through partnerships both in the US and globally through the CleanAction Coalition.

Qualifications

Seeking current graduate students or recently graduated.Ability to conduct research on global requirements for minerals to support the clean energy transition and provide analysis on physical and social impacts of mineral extraction, shipping, and manufacturing. Organizational skills including meeting and agenda planning; task follow up, presentation of materials, and time management. Ability to analyze data sets and draw conclusions from the information. General knowledge regarding energy generation and RE deployment. Strong team skills; comfortable working across organizational boundaries, actively participating in discussions and sharing ideas and insights. Strong communication skills including both written and verbal skills. Compensation:

Paid, Part-time - $21 per hour for 15-20 hours per week.

Location:

USโ€“DCโ€“Washington OR US Remote โ€“ WWF employs interns in all states except Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Wyoming. All candidates must be available to work Eastern Standard time.
