The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSIS is seeking a Fellow to join the Aerospace Security Project (ASP) to work on a range of aerospace, national security, and defense-oriented research projects. Broad knowledge of U.S. aerospace security issues is desired, with expertise in air power or space security preferred. The Fellow is responsible for conducting in-depth research and analysis, producing written reports and other written pieces, communicating with policymakers and experts in the field, and providing guidance and mentorship to ASP junior staff and interns. The Fellow is also responsible for project management of the program. She/he reports to the Director of the Aerospace Security Project within the International Security Program.

The minimum annual salary for this position is $70,000.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

โ— Supports the programโ€™s research agenda and impact through in-depth and substantial research and writing on a wide range of aerospace issues, including but not limited to U.S. space security, civil space, commercial space industry, air power, and cross-domain integration.
โ— Exhibits expertise on a specific topic or regional area, relevant to the program, as demonstrated in previous roles.
โ— Ability to develop and generate new program and research ideas, and partnerships with the aerospace community.
โ— Can serve as an expert and moderator at national and international public events, and communicate thoughts and findings at relevant conferences and events.
โ— Supports the planning and execution of program events and activities.
โ— Assists with strategic planning and growth of the program.
โ— Develops and monitors program budgets and financial transactions, contributes to fundraising efforts to include applying for grants and developing proposals.
โ— Provides guidance and mentorship to ASP junior staff and interns, supports the administrative management of the program, hiring, and more.


KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

โ— B.A., B.S., M.A., M.S., or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Astrophysics, International Relations, Political Science, National Security, or related field.
โ— 2 to 8 years of work experience in research and analysis in the aerospace field.
โ— Strong knowledge and experience on aerospace security issues, spanning space security, civil and commercial space, and air power.
โ— Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research and present information clearly and efficiently.
โ— Superior writing and analytical skills, with ability to write, think, and operate both independently and as part of a team.
โ— Skilled in data management and analysis.
โ— Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects under tight deadlines.
โ— Strong communication skills.
โ— Strong collaborator and team player.
โ— Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
