5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

This position will be based in Washington, DC, United States. This position will require a mixture of remote and in-person work.

About the Program:

World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent, nonprofit global research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity and human well-being. We are working to address six critical challenges that the world must overcome this decade in order to secure a sustainable future for people and the planet: climate change, energy, food, forests, water and sustainable cities.

The Global Restoration Initiative (GRI) is part of the Forest, Food, and Water Program at WRI, and works to inspire, enable and mobilize action to restore vitality to degraded and deforested landscapes and forests around the globe. Following commitments by governments to restore more than 210 million hectares of degraded land worldwide, the initiative is now focused on mobilizing investment, building capacity for people restoring land, and monitoring progress.

Job Highlight:

Land degradation is a pressing issue: unsustainable farming practices and climate change lead to water insecurity, less food, and growing deserts. Fortunately, there are thousands of smallholder farmers and community-led organizations across the globe working to revitalize the landscapes they call home. WRIโ€™s Global Restoration Initiative partners with these restoration champions to unlock their full potential: securing funding opportunities, connecting entrepreneurs with the right mentors, tracking progress through satellite monitoring, and building better policies with national governments. Join the GRI as it works to build a new restoration sector across Africa, India, and Latin America.

You will amplify GRI messaging and tell the story of restoration champions to audiences worldwide, supporting the GRI Communications Manager in content editing, copywriting, and media relations across the initiative. You will shape the GRIโ€™s global narrative, working with another Communications Specialist based in Kigali, Rwanda, and international office counterparts in India, Mexico, Brazil, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
