Program Overview

WRI Indonesia seeks to support government, private sector and communities in Indonesia to reduce GHG emissions through forest and land management, business operations and better livelihoods. We utilize new technologies, multi-stakeholder approaches and research to provide up-to-date, accurate and reliable tools, methodologies and data so key stakeholders can take part in sustainable development. To achieve this goal, WRI Indonesia is championing an ambitious program to change land use planning and management to be more inclusive and sustainable through several projects. WRI Indonesia also has a joint commitment with the provincial and district governments to support peat restoration, social forestry and sustainable commodity programs.

WRI Indonesia committed to provide support to the Indonesian Government's social forestry initiative that exists as an approach to overcome poverty problem in villages inside and around forest area while also ensuring that the forests will be managed sustainably. WRI Indonesia supports particularly in understanding the indicators or success criteria for social forestry schemes, assessing the challenges and enabling factors of social forestry initiative, and examining the effectiveness of social forestry indicative maps. Through this commitment, We support an increase capacity of the parties in social forestry management.

In South Sumatra region we also support sustainable palm oil governance at the district level by follow up on the program of Designing and Building Successful Jurisdictional Public Private Partnerships (KPS) to Improve Law, Transparency, and the Sustainable Palm Oil Initiative in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. This will also encourage increased sustainability, legality and transparency in all aspects of palm oil management. In the end, after the district level policy regarding RAD KSB (Regional Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil) has been established, it is also necessary to ensure its implementation and sustainability.

Job Highlight

The Research Assistant will be responsible for providing technical and operational aspects, notably for research-based activities in implementing and managing WRI's main initiatives/portfolio in priority locations and districts. The main responsibilities will include implementing the project plan; conducting and facilitating discussions; conducting a series of Land Use Planning training including preparing materials and implementing RAD-KSB documents, strengthening of community social forestry; support restoration implementation; research and data collecting - analysis and writing communication products and knowledge products.

In terms of administration, the Research Assistant based in the South Sumatra Office in Palembang and will frequently make field visits in South Sumatra province and its priority districts, as well as other places where he may assigned.

Liaise closely with the regional team and other key personnel of the projects, partners implementing similar programs, as well as relevant agencies of the Government, local authorities, and civil society. He will report to South Sumatra and Aceh Senior Program Lead.
