5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Program Overview

Launched in early 2014, WRI Indonesia builds on WRI's global 20-year history in the country and the official establishment of WRI Indonesia office has strengthened our impacts on the ground in recent years. Our current work primarily focuses on forest and land-use. Over time WRI Indonesia aims to expand its portfolio to include climate, energy, and city and transportation. In the last four years, WRI Indonesia is working with the demand side of the renewable energy sector and establish an initiative called the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA).

CEIA is an innovative public-private partnership initiative that aims to address barriers and scale up renewable energy (RE) deployment for commercial and industrial consumers in emerging markets. CEIA is jointly led by the World Resources Institute (WRI), Allotrope Partners, and the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and is supported by bilateral and philanthropic donors. Under the Climate Solution Project (CSP), on October 7th, 2022, CEIA Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Java Provincial Government to decarbonize West Java's industrial area including the Rebana Metropolitan.

Rebana Metropolitan is a national strategic industrial area planning mandated by the President under the President Regulation No. 87/2021. Rebana is located in the North/Northeast part of West Java that includes seven strategic regions, namely Sumedang, Majalengka, Cirebon, Subang, Indramayu, Kuningan, and Cirebon City. It is projected to be the driving force for West Java's economic growth in the future through the development of industrial areas that are integrated, innovative, collaborative, highly competitive, and sustainable.

In the MoU, one of our assistances covers a low-carbon development strategic analysis through industrial energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) technology, including electricity, heat, cooling, and steam, in one of the Rebana's industrial area namely Cipali Subang Barat. The knowledge products expected from our scope of assistance are a marginal abatement cost curve (MACC) for at least one of the most prominent sub-sectors of industry, technology mapping for the planned industrial sub-sector, investment analysis, and potential of financing scheme options and business models. Additionally, we're going to cover low-carbon technology mapping to building and transportation sector in the area.

Under the CSP as well, the CEIA has an on-going technical assistance to an apparel multinational brand on helping its supply chain partners to convert their coal boiler into sustainable biomass-sourced feedstock. The on-going project then escalated to a collaboration with Directorate of Bioenergy from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) under the Directorate of Bioenergy Letter B-1156/KS.02/DEB.K/2023. To ensure the sustainability of the impact, we aim to create a biomass conversion guideline for industry, taking our project of the apparel brand as a study case, and a policy recommendation related to sustainable biomass indicator.
