5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our office in Kigali or Nairobi. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

About the Program:

The Global Restoration Initiative at WRI informs, enables, and invests in people restoring degraded land. TerraMatch, the initiativeโ€™s flagship online platform, was launched in 2020 to connect restoration champions with funding and technical assistance. The platform vets projects, facilitates funding applications, supports project growth, and monitors restoration progress.

TerraMatch plays a critical role in accelerating locally led restoration in Africa, where 65% of land is degraded. By providing funding, technical expertise, and monitoring tools, the platform empowers organizations to restore landscapes, benefiting both communities and ecosystems.

Through TerraFund for AFR100, TerraMatch facilitates grant and loan applications for restoration projects and enterprises. Since 2023, it has expanded its support to three priority landscapes; Kenyaโ€™s Greater Rift Valley, Lake Kivu & Rusizi River Basin (Burundi, DRC, Rwanda), and Cocoa Belt of Ghana.

TerraMatch also hosts the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) hub for 120+ projects, including 100+ active projects funded through TerraFund for AFR100.

Job Highlight:

You will provide direct support to restoration project developers and managers across Africa as they navigate TerraMatch. You will assist new applicants in submitting funding requests and help funded projects report their progress. You will be engaging with project developers, translating their feedback and concerns into actionable recommendations for the TerraMatch development team, and ensuring they have access to the resources and expertise needed to successfully manage their projects. You will integrate equity into your work.

You will also manage communications between TerraFund and restoration champions, including preparing and distributing the biweekly TerraFund Update. Additionally, you will oversee and facilitate the TerraFund webinar series by drafting agendas, hosting sessions, and following up with participants. Since this role requires frequent engagement with restoration champions across multiple regions, you will work in both English and French to ensure effective communication.

You will report to the Product Associate, TerraMatch, with a dotted line to the Community Manager, TerraFund. You will be supported by the global TerraMatch product team and WRI project managers, restoration experts, and partners, including One Tree Planted and VIA Foundation, to ensure that restoration champions receive the support they need.
