IFPRI is seeking an individual consultant for developing/writing a paper on the โRole of Financial Inclusion and Strengthening of micro, small and medium enterprisesโ overall sustainability in Indonesia. This requisition is open only to individuals.
Background:
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) play a strong role in Indonesiaโs economy. Many of these MSMEs have not been able to grow beyond single owners as a result of perceived and real risk to growth as well as financial and other constraints. Moreover, many of the single-owner/employee businesses are run by women who might face additional constraints to growth. Finally, with the importance of environmental sustainability and climate resilience growing there is increasing interest to support MSMEs in reducing their environmental impacts. This study collected qualitative data between March and June 2022 to better understand constraints that MSMEs and their male and female owners face in the Indonesian provinces of Bali, Riau Islands (Bintan), Riau, South Sumatra, and North Sulawesi. A smaller area of three of the provinces underwent an enumeration exercise to understand the size and gender distribution of business ownership, while key informant interviews and focus group discussions were implemented in all five provinces to understand the opportunity space for jointly addressing financial inclusion, economic growth and environmental impact challenges.
Activities:
The consultant will re-analyze the data collected in 2022 and develop a working paper that can be published through IFPRI focusing on the Role of Financial Inclusion in Indonesia in Strengthening micro, small and medium Enterprisesโ overall Sustainability. We expect this activity to take 12 days.
Level of Effort: 12 days
Duration period: Receipt/Return of signed contract to February 29, 2024.
Required qualifications:
ยท PhD in Gender or related studies
ยท Good English writing skills
ยท Experience with gendered analyses
ยท Demonstrated experience in successfully completing studies on time
