About the Program:

Now in its fourth cycle, the WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities (www.prizeforcities.org) is a global competition to celebrate transformative urban projects igniting citywide change. The WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities recognizes trailblazing projects and initiatives for their contribution to inclusive and sustainable urban transformation. It seeks to inspire urban change-makers across the globe by amplifying lessons and telling impactful stories of transformative change. This position is hybrid and will require a few days per week in our Washington DC office. What you will do: The WRI Ross Center Prize for Cities team is seeking an intern to support communications, research, and engagement activities for the fourth cycle of the Prize for Cities, the premier global award for sustainable city projects. The ideal candidate is a current university student with an interest in cities, sustainability, and climate. In this role the intern will provide communications, research, and administrative support for the Prize team in the summer of 2024 as the team promotes the five finalist projects of the fourth cycle. The intern will also work with the team to prepare for Prizeโ€™s awards ceremony and learning roundtable events. The intern will take on a diverse range of tasks, ranging from writing blogs and social media posts, to working on the Prizeโ€™s research agenda and project database, to supporting the design and planning of high-profile events. This internship is a special opportunity to enhance your skills in a number of areas including writing, communication, research, and project support. Youโ€™ll get the chance to gain knowledge of transformative and inspiring city projects around the world and work with changemakers leading these efforts. Learn about a range of urban transformation projects and urban policy areas.Develop crucial workplace skills including research, communications, writing, and administrative project support.Gain experience working at a prestigious international environmental research organization and interact with colleagues and city leaders based around the world. What you will need: Pursuing or recently completed a bachelorโ€™s or masterโ€™s degree. Interest and enthusiasm about cities, sustainability, and environmental issues.Strong written communication skills โ€“ experience writing blogs, reports, social media, and communications products is a plus.Research skills โ€“ some experience developing case studies and/or project narratives. Ability to analyze diverse sources of information to understand the bigger picture of a project.Experience working with Microsoft Office products; experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Sharepoint is a plus.Experience supporting activities related to communications, research, and engagement.Good inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to work well in a team and with international colleagues and interfacing with senior staff.Good time management skills, flexibility, and willingness to take on diverse tasks as the teamโ€™s needs evolve.Comfortable executing assigned tasks independently as well as part of a close-knit team.Compensation The pay for this internship opportunity is $20 for undergrads; $22 for graduates and $24 for PhD. Length of Contract: This is a full-time, 3-month internship with a flexible start and end date. Location: This is a hybrid internship that will be based out of our Washington D.C. office. You will be required to work in the Washington DC office at least 8 days per month.WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
