BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme has been working in Nepal since 1963, supporting the Government to improve food security, nutrition, as well as emergency preparedness and response and to graduate from least developed country to a lower middle-income status by 2026.
Since 1 January 2024, WFP has been implementing its Country Strategic Plan (2024-2028) with four strategic outcomes:
- Outcome 1: Affected and at-risk populations in Nepal meet their food, nutrition and other essential needs before, during and after shocks and other stressors.
- Outcome 2: School-age children and adolescents and nutritionally deprived groups in Nepal have improved education and nutrition outcomes and greater access to affordable, nutritious and safe diets, including through social protection programmes, by 2028.
- Outcome 3: Smallholder farmers and climate vulnerable populations in Nepal benefit from climate-resilient and equitable food systems, sustainable livelihoods and climate-proof assets and services by 2028.
- Outcome 4: Communities vulnerable to and affected by crises in Nepal benefit from improved common services and enhanced capacities of the Government and humanitarian and development actors by 2028.

WFP offers a competitive benefits package including salary plus CIGNA health insuranceUnder the direct supervision of the Head, Partnerships, Communications and Reporting Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks;
Perform specialized communications processes and activities, to support staff in the development, preparation, execution and dissemination of campaigns for target audiences.
Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic and radio projects. Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
Support in generating donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, ensuring consistency with corporate messages as well as with donor conditions and established visibility and communications strategy.
Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimize publicity of WFPโs activities.
Organize and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicized and attended.
Monitor traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
Under guidance, prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFPโs activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
Manage updates and further develop internal records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, organized and available for others to access.
Respond to specialized queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.
Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFPโs work to the media and stakeholders.
Any other related tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area and university degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development or any other related field is desirable.
Experience:
- Six years of relevant work experience in Communications.
- Has demonstrated a strong grasp of organizational communication strategies and practices, along with a clear awareness of the broader socio-political environment influencing the organization's operations, as evidenced through daily responsibilities.
- Has experience in content creation and social media management like LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook etc.
- Has provided ad-hoc guidance to new staff members.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Proactiveness, good collaboration, interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
- Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Adaptability in fast-paced environments
- Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others) and visual story telling formats.
- Familiarity with tools for graphic design and video editing like Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Final Cut Pro etc.
- Flexible and open to learning and new experiences.
Languages: Excellent written and spoken English and Nepali languages. Working
knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
