The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Project Overview:
Assistive Technology is an umbrella term related to the delivery of assistive products and services, such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and eyeglasses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over one billion people worldwide need assistive technology, a number predicted to double by 2050. Yet, only about one tenth of the people who need these products โ to learn, work, or fully participate in society โ have access to them, with the gap most prominent in low- and middle-income countries. In many of these countries, assistive technology is directly donated by charities. As a result, service delivery is highly fragmented, often running in parallel to public systems and relying on donor funding that may not be sustainable.
According to a United Nations report on disability prevalence in Zimbabwe, 46% of older persons (60 years and over) have disabilities, projected to be 56% in 2050. The most prevalent types of disability in the country are physical (31%), visual (24%), multiple (13%), hearing (11%), intellectual (8%), and mental (6%). The country faces challenges with road traffic accidents, with recent data showing a gradual increase in non-communicable diseases, prompting a need for robust AT provision. Like most low-income countries, access to AT in Zimbabwe is challenging with limited human resources, policy implementation, stakeholder coordination, and service delivery.
Over the years CHAI has successfully partnered with governments in LMICs to create enabling environments for AT support. CHAI has developed national strategies and plans for scaling up AT, implemented surveys to collect data on AT needs, and conducted capacity assessments using the WHO ATA-C tool. This work has generated baseline data, galvanized momentum, and brought stakeholders together to transform AT provision in countries such as Ethiopia, Liberia, Nigeria, Malawi, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone. CHAI is now working with governments in Lesotho, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe to conduct AT capacity assessments and develop strategic policies and plans to mobilize domestic and donor resources. Under the project \"Building a Pipeline of Countries for Assistive Technology Investment,\" CHAI will support the development of data systems, national policies and strategies, procurement guidelines, product, and provision standards, as well as implementing government-led programs and market-oriented interventions to improve AT accessibility and affordability.
CHAI is looking for a highly qualified, very dynamic, energetic person with exceptional people skills and experience of working in challenging environments, to support Zimbabwe assistive technology team.
Due to funding, this is slated to be a 10-month opportunity.
Responsibilities
โข Develop toolkits with relevant resources and information to support program implementation.
โข Facilitate knowledge-sharing, including between CHAI program countries and with external experts.
โข Coordinate the development and review of detailed workplans.
โข Help organize relevant planning meetings (including a kick-off meeting in Q3 2023).
โข Develop and support the implementation of program management tools.
โข Conduct high quality desktop research and analysis.
โข Engage with external stakeholders and expertise to inform the analysis.
โข Prepare materials to present the findings, written report, and PowerPoint, with internal and external stakeholders; update based on their feedback and input.
โข Other responsibilities as needed by supervisor.
Qualifications
โข At least two years of work experience in a fast paced, results-oriented work environment.
โข Bachelorโs degree in a relevant field, preferably in social welfare.
โข Exceptional analytical, research and presentation skills for both qualitative and quantitative data; proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
โข Ability to work independently and effectively in a high-performance, dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
โข Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
โข Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with business partners and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.
