Position Overview
The UN Foundation has prioritized global health since its inception, serving as a catalyst, convener, and innovator in collective action solutions to drive progress on global health goals. UNF has channeled over $1.34 billion in grants to the UN work on global health, marshalled collective action platforms to help the UN solve global health problems, built savvy advocacy campaigns, enhanced partnership reach of the UN, and forged strong and diversified relationships across a range of sectors and geographies, from diplomats to civil society.
The Vice President, Global Health is a dynamic and proven professional ready to lead the next generation of global health policy innovation and partnership to support the United Nations and UN causes. The Vice President, Global Health is responsible for overseeing the work of UNFโs Global Health team and advising on the Global Health dimensions of UNF campaigns and initiatives.
The Vice President, Global Health is a member of the Global Health team and UNF Leadership Team. The Vice President, Global Health reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and works closely with leadership and staff across all teams.
This position is based in Washington, DC (Hybrid schedule).
Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership
Lead UNFโs strategy and approach on global health. Generate ideas for policy, advocacy, coalitions, and other initiatives to shape UNFโs contribution to effective multilateral delivery of global health policy and progress.Help build, strengthen, and diversify UNF engagement with key global health partners in the UN, governments, academia, civil society, philanthropy, and the private sector.Drawing on expertise in the team, across the foundation and external partners, lead UNFโs global health policy priorities and planning, identifying pathways to best contribute to advancing longstanding commitments to immunization, malaria, universal health coverage, pandemic preparedness and response, and antimicrobial resistance.Oversee an annual operating budget of approximately $4.5M and a grant portfolio of several dozen grants/year to UN system and related partners.Cultivate strong donor relationships and lead fundraising for UNFโs global health work.Advise UNF executive leadership team on global health issues.Serve as strategic, content-oriented internal advisor on UNFโs branded campaigns and initiatives related to global health.Plan and convene meetings, workshops, and consultations to support the development of UNF global health efforts.Represent UNF on internal and external advisory boards, as needed.Represent the Foundation at outside meetings and professional gatherings.Management
Selection Criteria
Masterโs degree in public health, international affairs, international development, or related field required.At least 15 years of progressively senior experience in global health, including at least 5 years of experience in a significant leadership role. Familiarity and experience in the multilateral space is required.High degree of intellectual and policy versatility across top issues in the global health agenda, with in-depth, practical experience in at least one relevant policy area to UNFโs existing global health portfolio.Reputation for exceptional representational skills with external audiences and proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a variety of partners, including diplomats, government leaders, civil society, and other stakeholders.Strong leadership and management skills, including ability to mentor staff and motivate diverse teams, ability to drive projects from inception to implementation with attention to detail, a proven ability to work across teams, geographies, organizations, and partnerships to accomplish mission.Excellent verbal and written communication and teamwork skills required.Commitment to continuous learning, openness to critical debate and ability to synthesize diverse perspectives and views.Eagerness to work within a dynamic and changing work environment, self-starter, flexible and team player a must.Proven fundraiser, with well-established networks, desired.Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.Benefits & Compensation
