โโโโโโThe Role
As the Chair of the Advisory Committee, you will lead the delivery and strategic development of ICES Advice, which includes a range of scales and complexity. Advice on harvesting opportunities for fish stocks is a fundamental element, but you will also be responsible for ensuring that ICES remains at the forefront of the evolving and broadening nature of work across marine ecosystems. You will lead the development of ICES advice in meeting the demands of changing maritime policies and continuing the drive towards more integrated, interdisciplinary ecosystem advice. This will require your innovative thinking to keep up with the continually developing and increasing demands for advice. โ

Your influence will extend across all levels of our multifaceted international organization, engaging with expert working groups, the ICES Council and Bureau, Science Committee, Data and Information Group, and Secretariat. The Chair is directly responsible to ACOM, with quarterly reporting to Bureau (ICES Executive Committee) and annual reporting to Council (Governing board, comprising representatives from all ICES Member Countries).
In this role, you will nurture the strong working relationship with the Head of Advice Department, acting as a vital link between ACOM and the ICES Secretariatโs advisory team. You will foster and expand relationships with advice requesters and partners, in addition โtโo continually keeping an eye out for new opportunities for cooperation. Furthermore, you will actively promote and communicate ICES processes, products, and work to a broad audience. โSafeguarding ICES integrity and ensuring that ICES advice remains independent of political pressure will be of fundamental importance.
Your insights and contributions will be instrumental in shaping the future direction of ICES. Join us in this vital leadership role, where you can make a tangible difference in the link from marine science to advice on the sustainable use of our seas and their living marine resources.
