Result of Serviceโ€ข Training and conducting state-of-the-art applied research (policy, technology, market, others) across key pillars of sustainable, equitable and resilient cold chain for food and pharma products is conducted. โ€ข India CoE campus facilities are built and developed, including the innovation and business hub and the technology testing/demonstration centre. โ€ข Priority partners remain well informed and bought-in to the CoE with meaningful contributions of cash and/or in-kind support for its continued growth. Specific Tasks to achieve these results include: โ€ข Training delivery and programme support ๏ƒผ Data gathering and analysis ๏ƒผ Assist in developing and delivering the course material for academic or industry cold-chain or refrigeration training courses ๏ƒผ Collect qualitative feedback data from surveys upon training completion ๏ƒผ Review, validate, and regularly update the training modules through the collected feedback and changes in policy, market conditions, advancement in technology, etc. โ€ข Programme design and delivery ๏ƒผ Conduct research on food/pharma cold chain and their economics to support the work of the CoE in Haryana, and additional location/s as and when assigned ๏ƒผ Track assigned project deliverables and help ensure overall progress per the workplan ๏ƒผ Facilitate delivery of activities to achieve priority milestones โ€ข Administrative and coordination support ๏ƒผ Day to day coordination with the Lead Expert, proving regular updates, strategies and plans (training, research, events, others) ๏ƒผ Provide administrative and coordination support to the nodal officers and the project lead. ๏ƒผ Develop working documents such as minutes, draft letters, progress report, timeline and plan, conduct site surveys, etc. ๏ƒผ Maintain database, provide support to management, develop documents, assist in developing events and requirements e.g. agenda, venue selection, preparing budget comparison, provide recommendations, among others. ๏ƒผ Provide regular inputs on the construction and implementation phase, then scaling up to ensure project is implemented in a timely manner. Work LocationPanchkula, Haryana, India Expected duration6 months with opportunity for long-term extension Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Haryana-UK Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Crop Post-Harvest Management and Cold Chain (CoE-SPMCC) is being established in Panchkula, Haryana, India. This is being jointly implemented by the Government of Haryana, UNEP United for Efficiency (U4E), the Centre for Sustainable Cooling (CSC) of University of Birmingham (UoB) led consortium of universities, and the United Kingdom (UK) Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra). The aim is to foster adoption of sustainable cold-chain solutions for food and pharma security and economic growth, including modal shifts, use of data, demonstration, delivery (including knowledge transfer) and skills capacity. The Haryana CoE will specifically: โ€ข Conduct state-of-the-art applied research across key pillars of sustainable, equitable and resilient cold chain for food and pharma products. โ€ข Provide capacity building, upskilling, and training for farmer producer organizations and mobilisers and other supply chain stakeholders including, among others, agri-startups and entrepreneurs, equipment technicians and researchers. โ€ข Develop both an innovation and business hub and technology testing/demonstration centre. โ€ข Connect indigenous and the UK (and wider industrial) experts, investors, agri-food businesses, farmer cooperatives, and energy or logistics providers, to support the delivery of affordable, resilient, low emission cold-chain systems in India in line with socio-economic and climate targets/national objectives. An expert is needed to work full time based at the Centre of Excellence (CoE), helping assess the present needs and prepare for future requirements of sustainable and resilient cold-chain through intensive trainings, high-quality research and development of the CoE. This requires comprehensive training experience along with state-of-the-art research and cold-chain design; energy transition and development of novel solutions, and demonstration of best available technology. Working with leading academics, conduct training and facilitate R&D and proactively support capacity enhancement of farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and others. Key focus areas include: โ€ข Understanding sustainable cold-chain and training on cold chain needs for food and pharma products out to 2050, and the associated technology and energy requirements. โ€ข Conversant with system approaches on how to use (and mitigate the need for), make, store, move, manage, finance, and regulate โ€œcoldโ€ to meet cold chain needs equitably and sustainably. โ€ข Market assessment of cold chain including the state of research, standard and protocols, policy study, technology availability and challenges among others. โ€ข Identify available cold-chain technologies and solutions in market and barriers for uptake and implementation (e.g., supporting infrastructure, skills and capacity) of cold-chain. โ€ข Support in developing fit-for-market business models and finance mechanisms. โ€ข Provide trainings (on site and at the centre) and support to FPOs, farmer communities and others. Qualifications/special skillsโ€ข A bachelors degree (preferably in the field of environment, refrigeration, thermal, mechanical, post-harvest management or similar) is required. Master degree or equivalent additional experience in a relevant discipline and deep understanding of sustainable temperature-controlled supply chain (food and/or vaccines) and their economics is preferred. Doctoral degree in the field of refrigeration, air-conditioning or cooling is an asset. Experience of working in a similar project in India or abroad along with โ€ข extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of cold chain technology, including experience in design and implementation of cold-chain solutions. โ€ข Experience in public engagement, trainings, and workshop organisation with FPOs, farmers, and stakeholders. Evaluate the results of learning courses, collect feedback and analyse for improvement in subsequent courses. Previous work experience as a Training Manager or similar role. In-depth understanding of traditional and modern training methods (including workshops, simulations, e-learning and coaching). Experience organizing training activities in a corporate / academic environment. โ€ข Proven experience in research (for example, doctoral level qualifications, research work or in-field activities). Interdisciplinary research experience linked to understanding complex social, economic, environmental, and technical challenges. โ€ข High level analytical capability, experienced in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. โ€ข Publication record in high quality scientific journals, at conferences and in industry accessible journals/magazines. โ€ข Demonstrated understanding of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles, and ability to apply these in training and research activities โ€ข Ability to develop modelling using modelling/simulation software know-how.
