ContextEstablished in 1948, the World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) is one of 6 Regional Offices globally that serves 22 Member States (including the occupied Palestinian territories). WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries. The Womenโs Health Unit plays a critical role in promoting womenโs health and well-being through advocacy, awareness, and capacity-building activities in the EMR. To achieve its goals, the unit requires a dedicated UNV technical officer to prepare background documents, support organizing technical/commemorative meetings and events, and support the rollout of initiatives aimed at improving womenโs health across the region.
Task DescriptionPrepare background documents and provide support for commemorating/organizing planned events, including โ but not limited to: โข Regional Meeting for Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE); โข World Health Day; โข International Womenโs Day; โข World Humanitarian Day; โข Support the rollout of โ amongst other potential initiatives: โข Regional Womenโs Cancers Initiative; โข Womenโs Mental Health Regional collaborative; โข Support other womenโs health programme initiatives as needed.
