Organizational Background

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Organizational Setting

The Policy Making Organ Secretariat (PMOS) Support Section provides conference facilities and services for meetings of the Commission and its subsidiary bodies.

PMOS maintains a roster of qualified and interested applicants to provide organizational and technical support during the meetings of the Commission and its subsidiary bodies.

Reporting Lines

Under the supervision of the Chief, PMOS Support Section, to:

Duties and Responsibilities

Set up the conference and meeting rooms prior to the events, workshops and sessions of the Preparatory Commission and its subsidiary bodies, to ensure the timely start of meetings and proper functioning of the meeting facilities; Provide logistical assistance to participants, photocopy and distribute documents during meetings to participants; Distribute relevant documents and statements to the interpreters in the interpretation booths; Assist PMOS staff during meetings with all conference related matters, e.g. collect statements for list of speakers, deliver messages to delegates, etc.; Assist at the conference officer desk and documents counter; Support conference technicians and interpreters during meetings, as required; Clear up the venue(s) after the meetings of any documentation, name plates, materials used at the meetings and ensure their storage or disposal/recycling as appropriate; Provide support to the PMOS staff during parallel meetings at the conference venue(s); Operate technical conference equipment in the conference rooms during PTS related meetings, when required; Perform other meeting related duties as assigned;

Education

Completed secondary education and/or training beyond high-school;

Work Experience and Qualifications

Strong attention to detail and quality, with a high degree of discretion and professionalism is required; Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast-paced work environment; Strong ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment is essential; Ability to work effectively in small teams.

Languages

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Knowledge of other languages of the Commission (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Remuneration

CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission. The salary offered may be subject to deductions to the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and/or Health Insurance Scheme.
