The ILO is issuing a call for expression of interest for the above position. This is an assignment of a purely temporary nature, not expected to lead to a career in the ILO. Duration is 12 months.
The selection process is not subject to the rules and procedures defined in Annex I of the ILO Staff Regulations
The following are eligible to apply:

Introduction
The temporary (12-month) social media position is situated in the Strategic Communication Unit (STRATCOM) within the ILO Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM). DCOMM works with all ILO departments and field offices to deliver the global communication strategy and is responsible for ensuring a common approach to ILO communication. The role of the unit is to ensure that key ILO content reaches external audiences in the most effective and engaging way through our various channels, including social media.
Role
The temporary position works with the team to manage the ILOโs global English language social media accounts, coordinate the content plan, and create and edit video and static content and post copy. It works closely with colleagues in the Strategic Communication team and other units in DCOMM to enhance audience engagement and ensure the social media plan supports and complements the overall outreach effort of the department.
The position reports to the Chief of STRATCOM.
Specific Duties
1. Coordinate the social media content and engagement plan in line with ILO communication priorities and in consultation with the Chief of STRATCOM.
2. Create and edit original, engaging multimedia content, including video, GIFs, cards, carousels, and other material, and accompanying post copy in English, designed for the specific needs of ILO social media accounts.
3. Anticipate and identify opportunities in the ILO calendar and the global news agenda to promote the ILOโs message on social media.
4. Establish and maintain networks to strengthen social media engagement with ILO content and amplify its reach.
5. Use feedback data to inform the social media strategy and improve and increase audience reach and engagement.
6. Share ready-made material with other ILO account managers, partners, and institutions via Trello.
7. Monitor trends and opportunities, as well as comments on posts and flag and address potential reputational risks for the ILO.
8. Promote the consistent application of ILO social media and branding guidelines across ILO social media outputs.
9. Adapt, use, or repurpose material from other departments and the field when appropriate, and provide feedback on editorial style as needed.
10. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the unit Chief.
Required qualifications
Education
Advanced university degree in digital media, communication, journalism, or other relevant discipline. A first-level university degree (bachelorโs or equivalent) in one of the afore-mentioned fields with an additional two years of relevant experience, in addition to the required experience stated below, will be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Experience
At least five years of professional experience in social media channel management and producing digital content, including video, and implementing social media strategies.
Languages
Excellent command of English and working knowledge of a second working language (French or Spanish) of the Organization.
Competencies
In addition to the ILO core competencies, this position requires:
Strong knowledge of the digital communication landscape and understanding of individual social media channels. Excellent English writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven track record of preparing and editing social media copy. Track record in producing audio-visual material for social media channels. Ability to use Canva, Trello, Adobe Creative Suite and equivalent, or other programmes for video and static content creation. Experience in interpreting user analytics across social media platforms. Understanding of design principles, strong creative abilities and capacity to apply branding guidelines across all content. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
