The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is looking for a dedicated IT Senior Systems Engineer with a strong background in Data Centre Infrastructure, VMware, Storage, and Cisco UCS technologies to join our Core Infrastructure team.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the role:

Our mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership and to act as a bank for central banks. You will contribute to this mission as a member of the Data Centre team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation, maintenance, and upgrade of our Data Centre infrastructure to guarantee optimal performance and availability. Your expertise will be essential in managing our stretched clusters and active-active Data Centre environments, ensuring our systems remain robust and responsive.

Principal accountabilities:

Data Centre Infrastructure Management: Implement, operate, maintain, and upgrade the Data Centre infrastructure, with a focus on VMware, Storage, and Cisco UCS technologies, to ensure the highest level of system and infrastructure availability. Stretched Cluster Expertise: Manage and optimize stretched cluster and active-active Data Centre configurations to enhance redundancy and fault tolerance. Technical Documentation and Presentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation and deliver presentations to effectively communicate complex concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Reporting and Monitoring: Implement robust reporting and monitoring systems to proactively identify and address issues and opportunities for improvement in the Data Centre environment. Organizational: Efficiently manage resources, tasks, and timelines to meet project goals and ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Automation: Develop and implement automation solutions using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and APIs to streamline repetitive tasks and enhance system efficiency.

Skills and experience:

VMware Technologies: VMware Software Defined Data Centre (SDDC), vSphere, ESXi, vSAN, Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations), Aria Operations for Logs. Cisco UCS Infrastructure: Cisco UCS and UCS-X infrastructure, Cisco Fabric Interconnect, Cisco UCS Blades, Cisco Intersight. Storage Technologies: Experience with Block Storage technologies (e.g., Dell, Pure, NetApp), Cisco MDS, SAN zoning, masking, provisioning, ISL, and storage administration. Familiarity with File Storage technology, particularly NetApp Metro Cluster and Snapvault.
