Position Overview
A new position at Partners In Health (PIH), the Senior Principal Giving Officer (SPGO) implements fundraising strategies to meet annual and long-range revenue goals from individuals and family foundations with the capacity to give outright gifts of $1 million or more. Part of an Individual Giving team that raises more than $100 million per year, the SPGO will develop high-level engagement strategies, conduct in-person cultivation and solicitation meetings, and support Executive and Board interactions with top donors, prospects, and connectors. Reporting to the Senior Director of Principal Gifts and working closely with the Chief Development Officer and other institutional leaders, the SPGO manages a valuable portfolio of approximately 75 high net worth individuals. Spread across the United States, the SPGO portfolio is a mix of new, lapsed, and active relationships. The SPGO will be supported by a larger team of donor researchers, stewardship professionals, and communications experts.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of approximately 75 high net worth individuals and family foundations with the capacity to make $1m+ annual and outright gifts.
- Develops and implements individualized donor strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
- Implementation of sophisticated prospect research to grow the Principal Giving program at Partners In Health (PIH).
- Partners with country leadership and across PIH teams to develop customized fundraising strategies and funding opportunities.
- Drafts and edits proposals, reports, and briefings as appropriate.
- Conceives and leads specialized gatherings and meetings, accompanying leadership as needed.
- Tracks fundraising progress and is responsible for the data management of their portfolio.
- Supports, when necessary, the Senior Director in strategy development and oversight of the overall Principal Giving portfolio.
Qualifications and Skills
- 5-10 years of progressive fundraising experience.
- A strong command of fundraising principles (including experience with annual giving and gift planning in a philanthropic giving setting).
- The ability to develop, implement, and assess effective donor-centered fundraising strategies.
- A proven fundraising track record that includes directly soliciting, negotiating, and closing six and seven-figure gifts, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
- A high level of organization and an ability to think creatively and be open to new ideas.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to donors, volunteers, and colleagues, including excellent judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in and outside of the organization.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-orientation, and ability to self-motivate.
- Ability to travel domestically to meet development goals, as well as occasional international travel to remote or hard-to-access locations required. Domestic travel is expected to primarily be within the Northeastern US to meet with donors and donor prospects and periodic trips to the PIH Boston office.
- Knowledge and proficiency with best practices in donor recognition and data management. Experience inputting, utilizing, and analyzing data within a customer relationship management environment is desirable. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
