Senior Operational Risk Manager
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Operational Risk Manager to join the Project Management Office in the Banking division.
This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:

You will contribute to this mission by:
Leading the operational risk management activities within Banking. Ensuring a consistent, efficient, and effective approach to address the operational risks across the unit. Overseeing Banking rules and standards, as well as monitoring, reporting and advisory of risk posture.By joining the Project Management Office team in the Banking division, you will:
Principal Accountabilities:
Hands-on providing subject matter expertise to the wider team with regards to the operational risk management across Banking. Collaborate across Banking and with the 2LoD to identify key and emerging risks for critical Banking activities, assess (and re-assess) risk exposures and controls during periodic reviews, map business processes to critical activities, and contribute to the Risk Appetite Annual Review. Perform and have overall responsibility for inherent, control, and residual risk assessments of identified risks through periodic RCA assessments. Ensuring quality of each assessment. Ensure control activities are effective and formulate responses to identified risks and issues. This includes establishing procedures for operations and controls, integrating control and reporting requirements from bank-wide and 2LoD risk policies, ensuring controls for policy compliance, and proactively identifying and reporting on operational incidents, including facilitating root cause analysis and remediation efforts. Review and monitor control activities or quality assurance procedures on implemented standards and controls by collecting and monitoring control reports, KRIs, and operational incident data. In addition, work with the management and the control functions to escalate breaches as appropriate. Work to bring risk tolerances back into line, monitor current tolerance levels, and advise management. Perform and have overall responsibility for meaningful and tailored risk reporting at all hierarchies enabling an accurate overview of Bankingโs underlying operational risk profile and exposure. Oversee and coordinate the closure of Banking audit activities. Being a trusted advisor to Banking to instil best practice, and provide advice, guidance, and support to management and the department more broadly, especially in relation to operational risks and operational incidents. Represent Banking and the BIS externally (when required) in operational risk management coordination and control aspects.Qualifications, skills, and experience:
Relevant educational background with strong operational risk management overall experience A high level of experience within operational risk management and the 3LoD model for enterprise risk management. Experience implementing or coordinating 1LOD operational risk management ideally at a commercial bank or financial market utility. Experience facilitating risk management trainings and workshops including material development. Excellent drafting and communication skills in English particularly for policy documentation. Experience in coordinating interdisciplinary working groups, ideally in an international environment. Strong analytical and interpretive thinking skills to solve problems, evaluate options and determine clear and pragmatic ways forward. High level of strategic thinking and ability to problem solve in ambiguous situations. Strong interpersonal skills with very good collaboration and negotiations skills.Who we are:
