Description

The Bank for International Settlements is looking for a Senior Communications Specialist (Internal Communications) to join our team in Basel, Switzerland.

Purpose of the role:

To ensure staff engagement through clear and transparent two-way communication with BIS employees, keeping them informed about the BIS, its stakeholders, global activities and projects while listening to their thoughts, ideas and needs.

You will work very closely with Communications leadership, HR, Communications Advisers and other stakeholders across functions and hierarchies to craft organisational messages, demonstrating a deep understanding of how to convert stakeholder needs and functional information into impactful storylines.

    Principal accountabilities:

    • Designs and implements a holistic internal engagement strategy, including metrics to measure effectiveness.
    • Manages internal communication campaigns from concept to delivery. Designs, implements and evaluates targeted, multi-level content and campaigns for the purpose of informing, motivating and inspiring employees.
    • Delivers content and campaigns through appropriate internal channels (eg staff intranet, blogs, videos, podcasts, newsletters, email bulletins, chat messaging etc)
    • Manages all internal channels editorially and plans and manages the internal editorial calendar.
    • Leads review and critical evaluation of existing internal channels and makes sound recommendations for improvement, in close collaboration with technology colleagues, to ensure up-to-date inclusion of existing and emerging new channels, tools and technologies (eg AI),
    • Provides strategic advice and expertise when collaborating with other functions to support them in timely functional updates, information- and knowledge-sharing across departments and the whole organisation.
    • Keeps staff proactively up to date on global activities, projects, programmes and initiatives of the BIS and its regional offices.
    • Proactively interacts with line managers to support them in their efforts to build and strengthen motivation and engagement in their teams.
    • Interacts with employees to listen and serve as their voice, sourcing quotes, success stories and other narratives for sharing purposes across the organisation.
    • Works closely with counterparts in HR to plan, manage, implement, and track follow-up to the staff engagement tracker and similar HR tools.
    • Builds and maintains a network of counterparts in IFIยดs and central banks, to ensure best practices are incorporated in daily operational life.

      Qualifications, skills, and experience:

      • University degree in a relevant field, such as communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or equivalent work experience.
      • Very good experience in defining and executing internal communications strategies in a multi-channel environment, leading internal communication campaigns in a corporate communications function of a sizeable organisation and with accountability for a variety of internal communication channels.
      • Strong experience in writing and editing texts (and other campaign materials), and in using different channels and tools to achieve staff commitment and engagement.
      • In-depth experience and creativity demonstrated in broadening the communication spectrum for employee engagement.
      • Mature, organised and driven professional with strong communication skills, including superior speaking, writing, editing skills and ability to present convincingly in person.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills, including active and empathic listening; able to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels.
      • Excellent planning, (self-)organisation, implementation, and time management skills.
      • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage various campaigns and initiatives at the same time, without losing sight of relevant detail.
      • Good team player.
