About The Project

Beans for Women Empowerment (Beans4Women) is a five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by the Pan Africa Bean Research Alliance, PABRA under the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT. Beans4Women aims at strengthening the gender equality, agency in decision-making, and resource rights of women and girls active in the bean sector in three conflict-prone provinces of Eastern DRC. The project focuses on three areas that most affect the degree of women's empowerment in the bean sector, namely the business environment around climate-smart agriculture, the participation of women in bean sector leadership and decision-making, and the rights of women to productive resources like land and nutritious food. Eastern DRC. The project will build on partnerships with INERA and development partners to benefit 2 million people, 60% of whom will be women and girls, in poor rural communities in Eastern DRC and will indirectly benefit 10 million people over the longer term.

The Position Summary
The Senior Accounts Analyst will be part of a dynamic Alliance team based at the DRC office. The position works in close collaboration with Program staff, Operations, HR, and Project Analysis and Support (PLANS) teams contributing to the effective delivery of Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT (ABC) projects in DRC. The Senior Accounts Analyst will specifically work closely with the Pan Africa Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) team and partners in DRC to ensure smooth financial support. Reporting to the Regional Finance Manager, the Senior Accounts  Analyst as the responsibility of ensuring timely and accurate registration and analysis of transactions and ensuring robust treasury operations in compliance with internal controls, and statutory and grant requirements.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversee the effective running of banking operations ensuring all bank/cash accounts are duly reconciled and balances maintained for seamless office requirements.
  • Ensure operational funds are adequately available for operational payments.
  • Ensure that liquidated expenses are duly documented, posted, and stored in accordance with institutional financial procedures, donor requirements, and GAAP.
  • Work closely with PLANS, program staff, and FINOPS regional team to ensure that project payments and expenses in DRC are processed, coded, and posted in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with ABC policies and procedures.
  • Support institutional and project Audits ensuring the timely submission of Audit information, compliance with audit requirements, and timely implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Work with different Program and administrative units to collect monthly cash requirements for submission to the regional office.
  • Support the preparation of office operational, personnel, and capital budgets including the collection and feedback from relevant parties.
  • Work closely with PLANS and PABRA team to elaborate project financial reports ensuring satisfactory compliance with donor requirements, providing timely responses to any queries raised by the donor.
  • Accurate and timely posting of financial transactions into UNIT4 Business World (UBW) ERP in line with ABC financial policies and procedures.
  • Conduct continuous analysis of TB accounts (including alliance inter-company accounts) to enable complete and timely submission of monthly and quarterly reports to the regional office.
  • Review and verify the correctness of Travel Expense Claims (TECs)/Accountabilities, including correct AECs, exchange rates, expense reporting, and presence of all receipts.
  • Ensure proper filing of accounting documents for ease of retrieval during audit and project review exercises


    Requirements

    • University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.Masters degree preferable.
    • Accounting certification e.g. CPA, ACCA, CIMA an added advantage
    • Strong proficiency in French and English languages, both written and spoken
    • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in a closely related field gained in an international organization including budgeting, accounting guidelines, and financial management of projects.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting and budgeting practices and procedures relevant to not-for-profit organizations
    • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with other national and cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Strong client service orientation
