WFPโ€™s activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition, and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. You will be part of an efficient and dynamic team that effectively support in the implementation of WFPโ€™s country strategic plan for Kenya.

JOB PURPOSE

The security unit is looking for an intern to support critical unit functions, here in Nairobi. It is a great opportunity to see how the security unit works and get exposure to both field missions โ€˜lifeโ€™ as well as the office-based workplan in Nairobi.

The unit consists of three security colleagues well capable of supporting in the development of security risk management strategy and leading in its implementation to ensure safety and security of staff. Although the unit can plan and prioritise staff safety and security while ensuring strict compliance with established policies and procedures, the unit could use assistance in provides suggestions into how these practices may be improved.

The intern, reporting to the Security Officer, is expected to participate and support in the following areas:

SSAFE Training Hub: KCO security, in partnership with a training provider has established a hub to cater for security training needs for the country and the region. The intern will be a key asset in running the administration of the trainings, assessing the staff needs and ensuring overall success of the sessions conducted. Communications and Reporting: Emergency communication to staff on safety and security is a key tenet of duty of care. The intern will be involved in the management of the various platforms used for communication including routine testing. Security Operations Support: Compliance plays a big part in managing risk

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Security Management, International Relations or Law Enforcement or other relevant field. Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent studies.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS

SSAFE Training Hub

Working with finance and the service provider to ensure seamless invoicing and funds collection process for the trainings. Support the development of SOP with respect to the training hub project Liaise with the service provider to ensure all logistics related to the training are managed in a professional manner. Manage the online registration and selection process. Liaison with different actors involved in the training e.g., Training providers, Various UN agencies etc

Communications and Reporting

Manage emergency communications, dossiers for WFP KECO. Manage updates and tests of the warden system via various platforms. Ensure distribution lists are up to date for various communications outlets. Send out SMS blasts as requested Communicate quarterly reminder to WFP personnel in Kenya regarding the QR code catalogue and how to join. Generate quarterly reports on security. Working with the risk unit and with WFP security staff, develop indicators to communicate the work that WFP does (number of security briefings, RSMs, VIP missions, field assessments that have taken place in that duration, security incidents by SRM area and any other pertinent content open for discussion). Highlighting one area/ project during the quarter โ€“ with travel to the field location to document a topic area and learn about the subject matter to be highlighted. Deliverable: Quarterly reports.

Support the smooth functioning of the daily operations of the unit.

Effectively collaborate with all relevant persons who are key in the functioning of the unit such as procurement unit for procurement requests, finance for invoicing, BTU for all IT needs of the unit. Ensuring the needs of security in the field are met such as safe haven requirements and necessities. Follow up on the status ETB or IFAK items i.e. replacement as they approach expiry dates. Follow up sharing of visibility items within WFP KCO and with other WFP offices and ensure they reimburse the costs of purchase.
