Background information/Organizational Context:
UNHCR provides life-saving aid including shelter, food and water to persons of concern, ensuring persons forced to flee their homes have basic safety, rights and dignity. UNHCR has over 18841 personnel working in 137 countries and 518 offices to make a difference in the lives of 89.3 million forcibly displaced people worldwide.
As part of UNHCR’s strong commitment to ensuring a strengthened culture of security, Inclusion, Diversity and Gender Equity, the Field Security Service (FSS) develops and communicates security information to increase behaviours, practices and attitudes amongst the workforce, ensures a person-centred approach to security management. The Security Communications and Diversity Intern will actively support FSS security communications and person-centred initiatives. Working with FSS provides a unique opportunity to create innovative security solutions towards diversity, inclusion, gender balance and enable a culture of security for UNHCR personnel globally.
During this internship, the Security Communications and Diversity Intern will learn, collaborate, bring innovative thinking and provide technical support in building networks across UN agencies, support communications and advocacy efforts of FSS and contribute to a diverse and inclusive global security team. The Security Communications and Diversity Intern reports to the Senior Field Security Officer, within Field Security Service of the Division of Emergency Security and Supply.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide support in developing and launching Field Security Service podcast series
• Support the development of security explainer video series
• Collate and distribute key security advocacy messages on a diverse range of communications platforms that help reach specific audiences
• Support preparation and development of security information, communications, and advocacy materials
• Help identifying and mapping diversity, gender, disability and inclusion requirements and status of implementation and compliance
• Support the implementation of the Field Security Service Gender Parity Strategy
• Support field security activities on relevant UN and Commemorative Days, the Global Refugee Forum, Security Week

Minimum qualifications required:
• University studies with a focus on security, international relations, political science, gender, diversity, inclusion or communications
• Experience developing communications materials or Power BI an advantage
• Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.

Eligibility

To be considered for an internship, candidates must:

-be a recent graduate* or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO

-have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to, or of interest to, the work of the organization; and

-not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.

*Recent graduates are considered to be candidates who completed their studies within two years of applying for an internship with UNHCR.

Conditions

The internship is for five months. The start date is 1 August 2023. It is full-time, with working of 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Allowance

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help support costs related to food, local transportation and living expenses.
