Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Arabic Verbatim Section, Verbatim Reporting Service, MPD/DGACM and the incumbent is under the general supervision of the Chief of the Verbatim Reporting Service, and directly under the Chief of the Arabic Verbatim Reporting Section. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Reviser-Verbatim Reporting will be responsible for the following duties (these duties are generic and may not be carried out by all Verbatim Reporting Revisers): Revises assigned portions of meeting records to produce records that are ready for issuance. Performs the duties of a Verbatim Reporter, as required, by transcribing and/or translating, on a self-revision basis, and revising assigned portions of meeting records. โ€ข Ensures conformity of the revised verbatim record with the original and/or other language versions, and with the United Nations established practice. โ€ข Fact checks assigned translation and/or transcription portions of meeting records and makes necessary corrections. โ€ข Edits the text as necessary for completeness and accuracy, making the required changes of style, syntax, grammar, and procedural language. โ€ข Reviews the final compiled revised record for quality control, as required. โ€ข Continuously learns how to make effective use of relevant language technologies and tools. โ€ข Contributes to the creation and review of terminology and reference materials, carrying out additional research as needed. โ€ข Provides feedback, advice and guidance to verbatim reporters under revision and to self-revising verbatim reporters, as needed, to help them achieve the expected level of proficiency. โ€ข Reports to Chief of Section on the quality of the work of verbatim reporters. โ€ข May serve as officer-in-charge of the Section in the absence of the Chief. โ€ข Performs other related duties as required. Proven experience in verbatim reporting on a self-revision basis is required LanguagesMust have a perfect command of Arabic, which must be the main language, and an excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. AssessmentEvaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
