Work LocationNew York- In-person or hybrid Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intern will support the DGACM Global Innovation and Data Analytics Service, which serves as the provider of technology for the intergovernmental services at the United Nations Headquarters and other duty stations where DGACM operates. In this context, the service seeks motivated interns to support its work. Responsibilities Interns report to full-time professional staff and will focus on the following work areas, as assigned: AREA 1: Data Science and Intergovernmental Research - Having a basic understanding of computer programming, database management, and familiarity with data visualization tools is desirable - Conduct research on intergovernmental procedures and practices of the United Nations main organs and their subsidiary bodies. - Support the development of the data models and assist with the integration of reporting tools and technologies. - Support the tracking of current intergovernmental activity in assigned bodies, provide analysis, and maintain the related data sets. AREA 2: Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Innovation - Assist the Chief with DGACM/GIDAS innovation projects and UN 2.0 related activities, focusing on data-driven improvements and AI implementations that support conference management and documentation services. - Assist in the preparation of innovation-based meetings focused on conference services and undertake other preparatory tasks. - Attend and summarize discussions held on the topics assigned to meetings. - Assist with AI-driven translation, summarization, speech-to-text, and other technologies relevant to conference and documentation services, and provide support to the DGACM AI Working Group. - Contribute to GIDAS Innovation initiatives by providing proposals and support for work on Innovation. - Contribute to preparation of meetings, talking points, and other papers and briefing materials. AREA 3: Computer Science & Agile Project Management - Support the day-to-day management of internal databases directly related to intergovernmental conference and documentation services, including user acceptance, quality assurance and change management processes. - Support issue management related processes and prepare related correspondence. - Assist in the development of data analysis models supporting conference management and documentation services. - Support the DGACM GIDAS Office of the Chief, including project management support, project related strategies, data, innovation and GIDAS policies. - Prepare for meetings with various internal stakeholders. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications โ€ข Have basic understanding of computer programming, database management, and familiarity with data visualization tools is desirable โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Be computer literate in standard software applications, computer science, and artificial intelligence. Understanding computer programming, database management, and familiarity with data visualization tools is desirable. Have strong analytical, data, innovation, creative and project management skills and/or experiences. Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Interest in the work of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council is desirable. Please explain your interest.
